Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

The Hop Addict is probably closest to what you're used to. It's nice and fresh at C'est What and they also have HopHead on cask, which is damn good as well.
Happy hunting...

Ouch - nobody is representing the Irish side. A couple of outstanding current releases are the Connemara Cask Strength Peated Single Malt ($79.95) or the now discontinued Bushmills 21 yr. old single malt ($148). I believe there's 1 bottle left of the Bushmills in the system ( I have 2 bottles), but ...

The last time I went to the KW Octoberfest I got kicked out of some giant beer hall and told not to come back. I'm still honouring their wishes.

I was at the Cooper St. LCBO on Saturday picking up an assorted 8-pack for my brother. I picked up an Anchor Steam sitting by itself, but the cashier wouldn't let me buy it, even though I said I didn't pull it out of a 6-pack. However, they did have my privately ordered Bushmills 21 yr. old in the s...

He's trying for the end of June. I gave him all of the beer suggestions from here last night and I'll keep you posted on the beer lineup\opening day. I'm sure he'd love a Bartowel swarm.

Very fair, Belgian. The Loose Moose, being in the location it is (Front St.), is simply gouging their tourist customer base. I had read a column in the Globe earlier that day, relating the story of a writer for the NY Times visiting Toronto, paying $8 for a pint of beer, having an overly-expensive p...

The Bad,Ugly and the Good

Sums up my beer travels last night. I started at the Rivoli to see a band. They've always had a slight micro presence and lo and behold, there was the 666 in cans - for $7 a pop. A pint I could appreciate, but a can? From there, lured by the promise of a cougar-fest at a bar I've never been to (gott...

Bar T's: Again, excellent info, thoughts and suggestion. Somebody suggested that 12 taps might be too many and I'm incilned to agree - 6-8 seems like a good number in terms of freshness and micro exclusivity until a regular clientele is established. Jon, those are very valid points about the neighbo...

"Halfpoint Stout, better make sure people don't think it's low alcohol." Or, it could be the beer of choice when you're halfway bombed. The good thing is with all these suggestions is that my friend isn't taking over an established bar, so it's a perfect opportunity to put a decent beer ba...

Great ideas, people. Many excellent suggestions which I will pass on to him as they come. There will be a cider as well and ideally he would like breweries to buy the tap. Don't know how many do that or if that's an option for the bigger fish only. The name is Halfpoint, and it is situated at 1602 D...

new bar - beer choices

A friend of mine is opening a new bar in the Dundas\Brock St. area. He's planning on putting in 12 taps and has already blown off the Molbatts reps - ("Coor's Light is a best-seller, you know"). He was picking my brain about choices - love it when that happens - so I thought I would ask 't...

Totally agree with you there. Iron Duke and the Imperial Stout are 2 of my faves. The stout probably gets ignored because it's so hard to find. Welly doesn't bottle it and will only produce it in cask form. I'll probably give the Arkell another shot tonight - I'll be at Feathers for a whiskey tastin...
