Re: LCBO Spring Craft Beer Release 2016?

I recall reading a while ago in the "Coming Soon to the LCBO" thread that St. Feuillien Tripel was supposed to be coming. Any idea on whether or not it will be included in the spring release? As recently as a couple years ago, there was a pretty good rotation of Belgian tripels making its ...

Now at the SAQ: Chouffe N'Ice Bière Extra-Forte Bière brune de type Ale, 330 ml BELGIQUE PRODUCTEUR Brasserie d'Achouffe SA DEGRÉ D'ALCOOL 10 % 3,65 $ The SAQ may have it's flaws but they consistently provide good Belgian options. I've always been a La Chouffe fan, though not as much into McChouffe...

Re: Drinkvine

Evidently, the issue has still has not been addressed. I realize now how utterly dependant I have become on drinkvine to plan my LCBO trips. Maybe I should try going old school and just perusing the aisles at a couple of bear by locations to see what's new...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

And on the subject on BOYD 2015, FWIW, I think the tap version was more subdued in terms of barrel flavour than the bottled version, while still being notably more cognac-forward than last year's edition. It's a great style either way, particularly for me as someone who would prefer a glass of cogna...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

Maybe they'll call this Dry-Hopped Sour 'Four Winds'. I don't know what they're going to call it, but it's pretty tasty. Vaguely reminiscent of a cross between Rodenbach Vintage and a dry-hopped Hill Farmstead farmhouse. Not as vinegary as the Rodenbach, and not with the depth and complexity of the...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

^^^^ According to the label, they literally threw coffee beans in barrels of Kentucky Bastard, so that would be bourbon. I had a sample and it was really good. A lot of coffee. Bourbon was quite subdued. I would need to drink more to give more insight, however, I definately recommend picking up a b...

Re: Winter Brewfest

The web site has been updated to include a tentative list of participating brewers in Toronto (and Ottawa too). To answer my own question above - yes, it looks like Quebec will be represented at both festivals. Bibloquet, Charlevoix, Gainsbourg, LTM and Brasseurs du Monde are among those coming to T...

Re: New Limburg Brewing Company

Great review, I'll check it out. I don't think you'll be disappointed. They are running a very small operation and seem to frequently run out of certain beers on tap and/or in bottles. If there is something in particular that you're looking to try it can't hurt to shoot Mischa an email and ask abou...

Re: New Limburg Brewing Company

... I would consider their beers the closest approximations to true Belgians that I've seen from Ontario craft brewers. Too often I find that the interpretation of Belgian in this province is simply using a Belgian yeast strain while continuing to use North American hops... Thanks for your detailed...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I was in the mood for something Belgian yesterday following a weekend visit to New Limburg and cracked one of my last remaining Gouden Carolus Tripels from the LCBO release a couple years ago. It's about two months beyond it's best before date. Still drinking decently, but some of the flavours seem ...

Re: New Limburg Brewing Company

I had the opportunity to check out New Limburg with some friends last weekend and I have to say that overall I was very impressed with what their doing, particularly as a brewery that has only been in existence for a couple of months. Their brewer (Mischa) was a gracious host and showed us around an...

Re: LCBO Winter craft beer release 2015

It is a shame that the price of Samichlaus has steadily increased every year. It's now $4.95 for a 330 mL bottle. I'm glad I still have a few squirreled away from years past. Of course I felt the same way last year when I didn't pick any up and the price has only increased since then. If I had the c...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I was bracing myself for an increase on last year's price $13; really nice surprise to see it go in the other direction. I hope their forecasted availability works out - won't be able to get there until later on Friday.
