Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). This is a cool discussion, and everyone's opinions are well considered. I wish I could speak more authoritatively on this topic. I work in this field...sort of...but basically I'm a layman just passing the wrenches to people who really know what they're doing. That said, even tax lawyers and tax acc...

In light of the re-launch of Frank D'Angelo during the world cup boaodcasts, I had to dredge up this thread. His ads for "D"Angelo Rapini" are comic gold. Especially entertaining is the back of his head when he turns to stir the rapini. Either his hairpiece is coming loose or his car...

Re: The Globe and Mail on beer and food

Of course, you've got to applaud when a major daily gives a full page shout out to dining with beer, but did anyone else feel like this feature would have been more appropriate a decade or so ago? (CRANKINESS.) Not that I don't agree with you, but you sure write some great cranky prose! 8) There ar...

Another poorly informed writer -- who normally writes on wine, and has a limited knowledge of beers -- chimes in at today's Metro. You cannot see it in the online edition, but the picture accompanying this item in the printed edition was the Rickard's bottle. Thank you, Molson/Coors. Presumably the...

Re: The Globe and Mail on beer and food

Of course, you've got to applaud when a major daily gives a full page shout out to dining with beer, but did anyone else feel like this feature would have been more appropriate a decade or so ago? Ten years ago or more?! He could have done the same article 30 years ago and plumped for a refreshing,...

Sorry, I have not been following the string...Maybe others have offered notes on these. First had a Duggan's "9". Really, really lovely and flavourful. Like Tankhouse to the Nth degree. And then a Gouden Carolus Ambrio. I got a case of the Classic for a gift, but this is the first I have e...

I'm gonna date myself... I used to buy Old Vienna. ( "It's time to say O-Vee, oh yeaaaa..." Just seeing this commercial again suggests the flavour of sulphur on the back of my tongue.) Mostly I bought OV because nobody else drank it, and it was easy to tell if someone had ripped off one of...

Just nauseating, even if it was to some extent inevitable. Revival of a previous string that played out just as the takeover was announced. I stand by my assertions: this is one of the most egregious examples of anti-competitive behaviour that I've ever been aware of. At least since E.P. Taylor was ...

Maredsous 10 (aged for a year...went down very smoothly. I'm liking these Maredsous beers) Dragonmead Final Absolution Trippel 2008-09 John By (for those who have been complaining about how this ages, mine are drinking splendidly) I got the Maredsous gift pack this year. The beers were lovely and c...

I'm drinking water, tea and fresh juices, recovering from injury. I recently learned I should never consume alcohol with ibuprophen (or for that matter with acetominophen or aspirin.) Damages the liver, it does! [/PSA] Is that reaction to mixing medication and beer a personal concern, or should tha...

Watching the Winter Olympics online and enjoying a Westmalle Dubbel. I picked up a handful of dark, winter-y beers from the LCBO's Christmas releases. But -- fatherhood being what it is -- I am only starting on them now. Last year, I had a six pack of the Bières de Boucannier untouched from the midd...

The capital costs of extensions into York region are being paid for by the York Municipalities (Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill) entirely. The Yonge extension has not yet been committed to (and will likely get dragged out a number of years before it happens). The Vaughan extension will also give...

My two cents, or two more links to articles... As regards TTC funding, (I believe that) until 1998, the provincial government covered 50% of the TTC's operating (i.e. day-to-day) costs and 100% of capital (construction and investment in equipment) costs. After 1998 both numbers sank to zero percent....
