Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

Sure there are some hopeless Blue Light dingbats who are simply afiraid of anything new, and they might be too jittery to 'trust' even an innocuous Lager such as Mill Street Organic - OCBA doesn't need the whole market obviously. There are still plenty of people toward the adventuresome side of the...

The stymied assumption that Premium Lager / nondescript label graphic is the ONLY business model to follow is rather blind - it fails to take into account that varied craft styles are actually perceived as different, brand-new products by consumers , and are seen as being very distinct. People WANT...

There's a reason why this thread had over 17K Derek, people always want to try new brews out. Guys, look what I found: http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/ProductResultsController?ITEM_NUMBER=909770 Is this part of that Spring 2008 USA Micro Beers theme? Anyhow, I'm already salivating at the thought. Wow!...

I agree they are not the strongest products, but they appear to have chosen what already sells well for them in the stores. Which sort of defeats the purpose of being a "discovery" pack. I'd disagree. The pack is supposed to be getting new people to try local products. By choosing their b...

Wow, this is like duelling banjos. I guess we'll just agree to disagree. :) In a nutshell, what I'm suggesting is that with the beers that are in this pack, the OCB are trying to compete on the strength of their product without including their strongest products. The breweries appear to be leading w...

If this as actually the case, that they used surveys to come up with what to include, then that's likely the problem. How many craft brewers use surveys to decide what products to sell? On the other hand, how many macro brewers use surveys? Craft brews are not mass market products. Surveys are pret...

That's not the point Belgian was trying to make. Ken continues to use the argument that brewers don't make more interesting beers because the makret is too small and immature. Yet, as Belgian points out, there is a large enough market to sell out an entire batch of a well respected American style I...

The more likely response to a pack like this is, meh, this is pretty much the same as what I usually drink, and what I usually drink costs less. Maritime Brewing Company tried that strategy here back in the late 90s, only a year before Propeller and Garrison got their start. They had 6 beers, 5 blo...

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA sold out in about 55 minutes. The "immature and too small" local market was grabbing this stuff up. Belgian, I wonder how much of the 60 Minute IPA was bought up by a relatively small amount of people because of its reputation and how much of it was bought up by...

We're trying to get more awareness of how good our local beers are. And before its out of the gate you start slamming us for trying. I'm siding with Ken on this one. We have to remember that breweries have to make money to sustain themselves, and that the aim of the discovery packs is to promote lo...

I stopped by the brewery on Thursday and they still had some bottles in the fridge. I grabbed 3 pumpkin ales, and 3 winter ales. I'd call though before making the trip, because there's a chance they may all be gone. I think I might drink one tonight while I can still say its fall. It was nice to be ...

Jaymack - its a small world. I went to C'est What the same night after watching the Raps game. I had the Chocolate Hazlenut Ale, which reminded me of a chocolately London Porter, and a bottle of Tsarina Katarina. The missus had Al's Cask and a MBA. As for the Holy Smoke...that is a really nice brew....
