Re: Is cask beer still a thing?

Common Good had their Ellesmere Amber on cask earlier this year and plan to have more offerings on cask from time to time. They typically brew a good rotation of traditional styles and largely stay away from all the trendy adjunct styles, which is fine by me.

Re: Is cask beer still a thing?

North Americans seem to like their hazies, pastry stouts, exploding fruited sours, and other overwrought brewing experiments. this is both 100% accurate and 100% sad the general craft beer consumer just doesnt want beer that tastes like beer The only encouraging trend has been the resurgence of wel...

Re: Is cask beer still a thing?

Pretty much agreeing with the general sentiment here, true cask beers aren't really on most people's radar these days. Maybe Cask Days' return will spark some renewed interest, but it seems to be a fairly niche thing here. North Americans seem to like their hazies, pastry stouts, exploding fruited s...

Re: Cask Days 2022

Definitely great to see it back, albeit in a pared down form. Cask Days was about the only festival I went to anymore, though my favourite years were when Cask Days was held in the Hart House quad. Gorgeous setting and just the right size in my opinion. The latter years at Brickworks became too busy...

Re: Stone City Ales in Kingston

I stopped in at Stone City for lunch on a road trip a few years back, it was a nice spot and the beers were decent but nothing special. I've yet to try Something in the Water but they certainly appear to be decent from a corporate responsibility perspective. Their whole mantra is supporting clean wa...

Re: Las Vegas

Fine dining is one of the last holdouts for craft beer appreciation. Interesting comment, because if you could go back to the 'beginning' of craft beer, you might have predicted this is where it would take off first. Certainly seems logical with regards to it being a premium product, seems wine has...

Re: Las Vegas

Well, just got back from Vegas and things really have changed since my last visit (2017). There's an entire brewery row/area in the Arts District now, whereas last time I recall options were limited. Managed to hit up Able Baker and HUDL. I'd say both were solid; not necessarily impressive compared ...

Re: 2022 Autumn Beer Release

Found cans of regular, peanut butter and Mexican chocolate yeti at a bottle shop (in Fergus) recently, so ‘regular’ is available in Ontario if you would like to seek it out. Ah, yea I've seen those floating around on the 'gram. Looks like Craft Brand Co. is representing them these days, they have a...

Re: 2022 Autumn Beer Release

Glad to see the Gonzo back again. I’d far prefer the OG Yeti to return than the chocolate one. More Chimay is always a good thing The Windswept beers are usually pretty solid stuff at a very reasonable price, so looking forward to that. Same re Yeti. Regular is one of my favourite American imperial...

Same, solid brewery, especially their stouts and porters- luckily this release seems to be mostly that.

Re: 2022 Autumn Beer Release

It's nice to see a seasonal list again and I'm always happy to see anything from Ayinger. Seems pretty solid, I look forward to trying most if not all of those brews.

Re: Are there any kick-ass breweries I'm missing?

Fair enough, they are definitely a little less intense for lack of a better word. I think Rouge are closer to 3M and Badlands in their approach. I see you mentioned big stouts as well; 3M probably does it best but you might like 5 Paddles. I find them to be hit or miss overall, but they typically m...

Re: Are there any kick-ass breweries I'm missing?

Town makes some of the best IPAs in the province, in my opinion. I would say they're perhaps not quite as dense/sweet as some Badlands and 3M, but that's why I like them so much, I find them more balanced for my palate. Rouge River make some excellent hazy IPAs as well. I like Town ok, nut as much ...

Re: Galapagos Islands

Well I certainly wouldn't have expected craft beer on the Galapagos either. Sounds like an amazing trip, definitely on my bucket list along with Ecuador proper. Thanks for sharing!
