Re: Coronavirus

I'd love to see a breakdown on how breweries are affected by this. I read a CBC article about how some brewers couldn't keep their online stores stocked because of unprecedented demand. Of course, that's coupled with keg sales disappearing and probably temporarily laying off a huge chunk of staff. ...

Re: Strawberry Beers

Half shameless plug, half being helpful: Whiprsnapr released a Strawberry beer today, they ship Ontario-wide. Their stuff typically sells fast. Found by brewed.today: https://twitter.com/BrewedToday/status/1258796842336354304 I will concur that brew.today is a great resource, I check it pretty much...

Re: COVID19 affect on craft brewring industry

Belgian obviously knows what he meant better, but I didn't read it that way at all. I wouldn't call it dismissal, but rather Ontario's beer scene has become so good it's negated the need to drive down to the US to get excellent beer. Which if you think about it isn't preferable to getting great bee...

Re: COVID19 affect on craft brewring industry

Let us hope the best survive, there's some really good talent and hard work going into Ontario brewing such that the quality & range of brews we have didn't even exist 10-15 years ago. Definitely agree with this. We have done an excellent job of catching up (more or less) to the great beer nati...

Re: Strawberry Beers

Too bad about the Barnstormer. Came across this one: https://shop.benchbrewing.com/collectio ... e-wildwood

Bench typically puts out solid beers, this one is a barrel aged sour fermented on Pinot Noir and strawberries.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'm scared to go out due to the miasma, so have been mostly hunkered down with home brew. However I did find something interesting in the old survival cellar on Saturday. One last bottle of Central City/Flying Monkeys Red on Red collaboration. I'm glad I bought a bunch back in the day, this really ...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Lake if Bays’s Off the grid PA. I’m just gonna say it, this.is.great. Took a chance on it, as I’ve never been a fan of LOB, the red ale is good for what it is, but that’s about as far as my love for them goes. This one is super tropical tasting with tonnes of tangerine and pineapple. It’s got a pin...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Firestone Walker's Firestone Lager — Very cool to see FW on LCBO shelves. I was really in the mood for a good lager, this pours a nice deep yellow, but is otherwise rather bland. Canned in October. De Moersleutel Rusty — Very satisfying imperial brown ale. This is just getting ridiculous, I don't e...

Re: Collective Arts

Chunks in fresh beer are generally (I say generally because there are always edge cases) no big deal and cosmetic in nature. Flavorless proteins suspended in the beer or excess yeast in suspension that fit whatever reason didn't crash out when it should. Probably a sign of carelessness on the part ...

Re: Best Traditional ON Craft Brews

Creemore had some pretty solid options at one point - Keller, Kolsch, Alt, etc... do any of those still exist? They do, but I think they're seasonal. The LCBO has a Hellles from them in stock right now which I have not tried. To the best of my knowledge, the only ones that are available year-round ...

Re: Best Traditional ON Craft Brews

Godspeed’s Dortmunder and Alt are perhaps idiosyncratic but superb. To style I’d say, but unmistakenly Godspeed This I agree with completely, just picked up a bunch of Godspeed beers and they are superb. They might not be the most boundary pushing but I appreciate well done classic styles and right...
