Re: Why don't brewery taprooms stay open late?

more responsible, community oriented; often family friendly even. Late night drinking somewhat goes against that ethos. I agree with your analysis, but these things can co-exist. A bar certainly can be friendly during the day and inviting at night without being irresponsible or lacking in community...

Re: Why don't brewery taprooms stay open late?

My thought is that it's especially this part: "Avoiding late night intoxication issues?" The general vibe I get from most breweries and their taproom spaces is that they are more responsible, community oriented; often family friendly even. Late night drinking somewhat goes against that eth...

Re: Pine

Amsterdam Boneshaker is the other one that comes to mind when I think of that classic west coast profile, it's definitely got a piney element. Probably still my favourite from that early 2010s crop of Ontario IPAs along with Lone Pine and Mad Tom. Amsterdam has pretty wide distribution, so I imagin...

Re: Pine

I tried Shakedown from Big Rig and in my notes have pine listed as being fairly prominent. I was actually quite impressed with it overall as far as Big Rig goes, one of the better ones I've had from them lately. Amsterdam Boneshaker is the other one that comes to mind when I think of that classic we...

Re: Left Field Brewery

Great news indeed. I usually head up to LV for pre-show dinner/drinks before shows at the amphitheatre/Echo Beach, but I've never been impressed by most of the offerings there. LFB will be a great step up beer-wise and I imagine they'll have a good kitchen too.

Re: Las Vegas

If I recall BrewDog was also getting a bit of bad press for their management culture around that time, so that might have soured things a bit too. I visited their Aberdeen pub on a trip to Scotland in 2018 and enjoyed it. Jet Black Heart on nitro is fantastic, I'd say if they're offering it at the ...

Re: Las Vegas

Will be in Vegas next week. First time in five years. I'm open to suggestions, but I will have a well travelled local beer geek to babysit me. 8) One place another contact has steered me toward is the local Brew Dog location. Looks kind of neat, even if it is probably over the top corporate. Anybod...

Re: Side Launch - Mountain Lager discontinued - WTF?

... Side Launch definitely needs to revisit its branding ... And they have. https://www.canadianbeernews.com/2023/04/13/side-launch-brewing-reveals-new-logo-and-branding/ Did they give you an honorarium for your suggestion? :D Hah, I wish. No one ever gives me credit for all my great ideas.

Re: Ontario brewed Tripels...

Goose Island Toronto has a fairly new trip', called Tripel/Time: https://untappd.com/b/goose-island-brewhouse-toronto-tripel-time/5118602 I picked one up. Will letcha know how I liked it! Okay, nothing special...as expected. Here's another interesting one I found that's tasty but far from tradition...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Haze of the Dead was indeed very good. Sure, there's equivalent and better stuff here too, but it's still nice to try some US stuff. $3.75 is a pretty good price too, considering equivalent DIPAs here are often $5 and up. What's really exceptional is that Peche though. What a fantastic beer to have ...

Re: New York/Manhattan/Brooklyn

I can't speak personally since I haven't been to NYC since 2006, but if you're over in Brooklyn I see a lot of praise for Grimm and KCBC. Now granted this is beer instagrammer praise, so hype breweries or whatever you might call it, but they seem highly regarded. I believe both are new since the las...

Re: Badlands Brewing Caledon

Now that said, I've definitely enjoyed a number of IPAs in this style, of what I've tried from Badlands I generally like more than I dislike, but it seems my favourites are the ones that the hardcore hazy fans might find to be on the thinner/lighter side. I tend to agree that the lighter ones can a...

Re: Badlands Brewing Caledon

Maybe, and I mean maybe, they make the best hazy beers in Ontario (Barncat and Third Moon could certainly hold that spot as well). But there's so much more I'd rather drink than hazy ales. To each their own. I find all three them (and many of the other breweries in Ontario known for their hazies to...

Re: Surprisingly good beer from TBS

I'm with you on cutting down my beer spending, sadly it's become unsustainable. I'll typically fill the fridge with GLB Lager, Canuck or Pompous Ass which range from $50-60 per 24. Just about the best value out there. Jever and Bitburger are also a good deal at under $65/case. My other go-to when I'...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

What great news to start the week, Peche is still one of my all time favourite Canadian beers. I can't even remember the last time it showed up in the LCBO, it's got to have been years. LCBO listing says 473ml can for Peche - that's a big one! I missed that! Five bucks is a pretty solid deal for a ...
