There are a lot of different sour beers out there. Some are slightly sour and some are intensely so. If you haven't previously enjoyed sour beers you have had, starting with a gueuze is a pretty intense dive back in. They are generally as sour as they come, without any fruit or other additives to cu...

I think the Fond Tradition is pretty good. It is certainly not in the league of Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen, but who is expecting it to be? Gueuze is probably my favourite stye of beer, and I am certainly glad to have some Fond Tradition in the basement to drink when the mood strikes. One benefit to...

Great, so is that bottle of Bellwoods 2014 Motley Cru I have laying around going to taste like crap now? The Motley is a different beast because of all the Brett and the barrels. It's got a whole lot more going on than just being an IPA. That said, I probably wouldn't hang on to it for months and m...

Stick to the Belgian styles, boys.
Largely true, but I think both Moralite and Yakima are very nice IPAs.

Isn't the easy way to answer the question to look at the bottles? To my understanding, the official release was the only set of bottles that were branded. If the bottles are plain, then I believe they are "grey market". Given the quantities that appear to be available, I strongly doubt tha...

the warnings are likely more to do with it being a hoppy american pale ale than due to the brett content - APAs/IPAs are not suited for aging and best fresh. Probably just trying to keep folks from going with brett == ageable. That's my guess, too. Curious to see how it develops, though, as my thou...

Posted the same thread on BA & RB and was referred to a new spot called Silver Cow , which currently has Stone Old Guardian, Mikkeller Rauch Beer Geek Breakfast, Rare Vos, Old Rasputin, DFH Sah'tea, Avery The Czar, Domaine DuPage, and a shit load of local crafters on tap. Looks like this place ...

I had this at Volo yesterday and also thought it was very good. I agree that it has a strong tropical fruit flavour to it. Hard to be sure without a side-by-side, but going on memory, I prefered it to Lake Effect.

I tried Kentucky Bastard once on draught and I can say that I would not pay any price for a bottle much less $18.95. I wasn't impressed at all and I don't expect much from the wine barrel version but, of course, that's just my 2 cents. I agree with your take on Kentucky Bastard, but I rather liked ...

All that being said, I remain surprised that we do not have a local, regularly available porter of high quality. If we could have something like a Founders, a Black Butte or an Edmund Fitzgerald (doesn't have to be quite as good!), i would be very happy.

It seems to me that the primary obstacle to an Ontario brewery following the model of a Dogfish/Stone/Bell's/Firestone/etc is consumer tastes and perception. In the vast majority of bars in this province, if there are 10 beers on tap, 7-8 of them will be mass-produced pale lagers (the others will be...

Another batch of R&R is also on the way according to that update, I believe the Saint of Circumstance is a Belgian Blonde I had it on tap at Bar Hop awhile ago. I don't remember it having any Belgian qualities. It was a light blonde ale, with citrus fruit additions (don't recall the particular ...

To be honest, I've been disappointed with Trou du Diable beers in general. I'll get the occasional hit (BarVolo 25th Anniversary, for example), but overall I've found their stuff to be average quality and overpriced. It's definitely not BAD, but I feel like I can get better value for my money. Damn...
