Dominican Republic
I am heading down to the Dominican Republic in April, wondering if anyone has any beer tips, specifically for Santo Domingo.

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing
There was absolutely ZERO maple to this canned version, as well as a strong boozy/chemical undertone... I would still agree that there seems to be a distinct lack of maple flavour in this season's batch. I've never tasted previous batches but I could clearly taste/smell the maple in my cans. The sw...

Re: Winter Brewfest
Please the masses? Its just being a responsible host of a "tasting" event. That, and allowing people to hydrate. I agree and was being a little sarcastic. The water was appreciated and expected. And there were drinking fountains at the venue. bribing people with beer... I wish I knew wher...

Re: Winter Brewfest
My experience mirrored yours almost exactly. Getting there early on Saturday was key. I know enough to know that the best beers will sell out. I got to hit everything I wanted and more. I focused on Quebec and some Ottawa brews and did quite well. I really liked Gainsbourg Orange Tie Wrap. MacKroken...

Re: Winter Brewfest
They released the Toronto beer list here: http://www.brewfest.ca/toronto/pdf/WBF_TORONTO_2016_ListeBieres_ENG_4x6_FINALweb.pdf Nothing earth shattering but more than enough to keep me happy. I offer my top five beer picks here: https://beerstodiscover.wordpress.com/2016/02/19/event-toronto-winter-br...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
So I cracked my bottle of Three Minutes to Midnight 2016. Sorry, but I really don't like it at all. In fact, had it cost two dollars, not twelve, I might be pouring it down the drain. I find the cherry/raspberry flavour, primarily at the start but continuing throughout, to be overwhelmingly strong,...

Re: Burdock Brewing
I've had about 10 of Burdock's beers and thought Westcoast Pilsener, Brett Saison, Golden Brett Ale were above average. Everything else was decent, except the peach Berliner, which I found barely sour.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Which IPA do great lakes tend to release after Lake Effect? As far as I can tell there's no consistent schedule with GLB. But they seem to be producing much larger batches of IPA these days (specifically the latest batches of Lake Effect and Thurst). Maybe one day soon we'll see a regular IPA in th...

FT: 3 Minutes to Midnight - Raspberry
I am not loving this version, as I am not a fan of raspberry generally.

St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout fills the gap a bit. Very satisfying at 5%.

Re: What're you drinking right now?
Just drank one tonight and really enjoyed it. They must have put a tonne of cacao nibs in this. It was almost like drinking a glass of chocolate syrup., but not cloying.Coronaeus wrote: Indie Ale House Cocoa-Coconut Zombie Apocalypse. Really quite nice, glad I bought a bunch.

Re: LCBO - Fresh Stock Locator
Found some Nickel Brook Headstock canned 31 Dec 2015 I had some from the same batch from Keele/Lawrence, very good indeed! I haven't been buying too much Headstock since NB dropped the ball with their can dating. Some cans dated with black ink on mostly black labels (genius!) Others are marked unde...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
From what I've seen in the past 12 months, I expect many Bellwoods special releases to last at least a week in the bottle shop (though I often don't leave it to chance). IIRC the original cherry 3MTM (which i much prefer), Donkey Venom and Barn Owl lasted for a week or more. Lambda hung around for a...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Picked up Ransack at the Spadina/Bloor Beer Store, bottled 1 Oct. Shammmmeee I got a six pack of the same batch from the TBS. Very disappointed that the fist batch hit the shelves three months old. But I thought is was pretty good. Balanced and tropical. I'll have to try it fresh some time. I picke...
