Beyond The Pale Brewery
Hey Ottawa Towellers. Beyond The Pale Brewery out of Hintonburg are going to have one of their beers available on cask tonight at Bros Beer Bistro. I don't know which, but I'm hoping the Rye. The brewer might be kicking around and I know a few other local reps from different breweries will be down t...

Besides the size and alcohol content there is also the price tag that comes with larger bottles. I drank many bottles of St Ambroise Imperial Stout last year. $5.95 for a nice beer is OK but $13.95 for something that may not get finished while it is still in good form is hard to pull the trigger on...

Winterlude Beer Festival in Ottawa - Feb 16 & 17
Just announced... http://www.winterbrewed.com. Pretty basic so far, just the date and some minor details, but looks promising.

To me the difference between craft and non would be the philosophy of the brewery, not the size. Are you setting out to make the best beer possible (in a certain style) with quality ingredients that will, in turn, hopefully sell well and generate profit? Or, are you setting out to make a beer that w...

The Grad club isn't too shabby either given the competition. They have a constantly roatating tap list, which is almost all Ontario craft. Usually some Mill St, Beau's, Flying Monkeys, Muskoka, Railway City, Gan Brewing Co And, down the road in Gananoque (about 25 mins east on the 401) is the Old En...

Cask Fest at the Red House in Kingston - Oct 14
Next Sunday the 14th there is going to be a small cask festival at the Red House in Kingston. I`m not sure of the full line up, but I know Muskoka, Flying Monkeys, Wellington, and Nicklebrook will be there for sure. It starts at 2 and goes until 6, or until the beers is gone. Should be a fun time. T...

A Little Bit Zombie
This is a movie I just watched to start gearing up for scary movie season. I thought it was worth a mention on here though because one of the supporting characters is constantly drinking the GLB 666 Devil's Pale Ale, as well as holding it on the cover. Also not bad for a Canadian zombie flick if you...

It's not on the website, but the Manx is doing all of their specials tomorrow night using Flying Monkeys beer. Netherworld and maple braised lamb shank and Stereovision marinated buttermilk fried chicken were what I heard chef say. All of the regular specials will have beer in them as well. I think ...

For non-fiction I just finshed Empire of Illusion by Chris Hedges, which was great. Something you would read and ponder while sippin' on a complex porter or stout. Fiction has been lighter with the Thursday Next series from Jasper Fford. Currently on the third book, The Well of Lost Plots. Interesti...

The tap list has been updated since that menu was printed. They have the Beau's and Kitchi blonde and dark still, but they also have Mad Tom, 3 Mill St taps and then a feature as well, plus they have a better bottle selection than is on that menu as well. Like I said, not astounding, but I was there...
