I'm just head there too, but I'll be stuck downtown, which is mostly sad. There is one place up near the concert hall I found a few years back. I wish I could remember the name. It had a great selection and service. If I get over there this time I'll bring back the details.

Fantastic log! Thank You! My vintage is from the early 80's (at least legally). I used to travel to Montreal often to visit friends. I remember the most charming taverns being in the east end. I speak barely a word of French, but I always felt welcome with my friends and I suppose I would have been ...

You probably know it as Mississauga-Toronto or MT - kind of like KW but with better mayor fights.

My bad. I figured you guys would have something better to do than comment on something like that. Since my rock roofed abode was slow today I took up the cause. Next time, I swear, I will always search the archives before I impulse buy at the LCBO. BTW, even my local didn't have a whole case,...

WTF?

I found a can of something called Georgian Bay Dipper from Midland Breworks. It looks like Hockley Valley is contract brewing it.

It tastes real cold; according to much of the labelling, that appears to be the intent.

Just thought I'd warn you guys. :)

Saku Porter didn't impress me much. It came off tasting like a slightly beefed up brown ale. Too much caramel for my taste. It's local competitor A leCoq, which has an important history in the Imperial Stout world has a great Porter. They still produce an Imperial Stout. It is a fantastic beer, even...

I always keep my beer where I can find it; in a glass by my side!

Yes to Imperial Stouts and Baltic Porters! I'd really like to see more local brewers try these styles. I'd be glad to see them experiment and come up with 'Ontario variations'. Who knows, maybe they will hit on something as good as the West Coast variations on IPA! There are some pretty good stouts ...

I'm so sad and conflicted...

I spent the night with a great bunch of people, but in a place with nothing but Inbev. In the end I just accepted that Blue was a little better than water. I really wished it would have been possible to share good beer with these good people.

You can only use steins if you wear lederhosen or have an absurdly busty maiden server you your beer - It's the Bavarian tacky law of 1410!

Bobsy, that's a great account. Over here we referred to people we had to fish out of the water as amateur drinkers. The truth is, there is nothing particularly British about people getting wasted and I did not mean to imply that. I started drinking at a young age. Some of this was supported by my pa...

Sad but true

Well, not entirely true, but sad enough. This is a blog from this week's Economist on the UK pub scene. http://www.economist.com/daily/diary/displayStory.cfm?source=hptextfeature&story_id=11826680#tuesday I think an interesting part of this story that us beer lovers sometimes forget is that pubs...

That's so funny. Greg you should work for Comcast! I'm amused by his/her comments on the service. While I've had good service at the Boiler House, I'm convinced Pure Spirits only hire the most inexperienced and undedicated people they can find. I have had terrible service there several times. I even...
