It might also be the crappy bars you need to drink in to get a Rickard's :-? That's a really good point. You can find it anywhere, but how fresh is it? I've had both Richards Wit & Blue Moon (when there were few options on tap) that were practically undrinkable. Not crappy bars, but Boston Pizz...

And this is what gets me... if they are the same beer you'd think that the opinion of them would be more or less the same over several hundred reviews, but on both Beer Advocate and Ratebeer Blue Moon significantly outperforms Rickard's. Brand perception is a powerful thing! It might also be the cr...

Could be that the bottles were turned upside down in shipping, and the sediment, now on the wrong end of the bottle, might be serving as a nucleation point as you pour. I recall some of mine foaming pretty well too, so it could also just be that this beer has good head formation and a fairly heavy ...

John By grunge?

I picked up a few John By Stout last week. They have been stored upright in a cool location since I got them. I opened the first and got a volcano of thick gooey foam. It smells fine and a quick taste didn't indicate it being off, but I'm hesitant to consume more. Looking at the other bottles in the...

Oh just another note about Rickard's White, it seems to me like it started the whole pseudo-craft beer trend in mainstream brewers over the past couple of years. Am I wrong? Seems like the White took off in popularity, now Alexander Keiths has countered it with their own Wit, as well as a watery st...

I was at Dark Horse recently after many years. I was totally unimpressed by how bad the service was. Dog slow and it was far from busy.
Also the attitude... I don't even put up with that crap at C'est What and their beer list is miles better!

This should help them wipe out some of their indigenous breweries. By directing availability to imports and the big blands, the Scots will be left with swill and thus give up on drinking all together,. Right???? :-?

My theory is corporate jobs are a great rotting swamp for good brains. There are enough nutrients to keep them alive, but eventually they all rot to the bottom. Layoffs or failures of companies are like forest fires. They liberate great minds (new seeds) to start new enterprises. Downturns are tough...

uuuugh... Started with St.Paddy's eve (Monday night for the slow amongst us). Enjoyed lots of Durham Red Dragon until 2 AM-ish on the day. Just recovering now. I'm glad I missed the crappy Disney Irish Pub event that this has become, but I'm not glad to have lost a day and a half of my dignity! On a...

English is one of the most inventive, acquisitive and multi-shaded languages - it simply refuses to stand still, and what we here at present speak may in centuries ahead be little understood, or even completely misread. At least we now have many technologies that keep an audio record of languages a...

Thanks Gary, very interesting. I note the reference of "Devil't Diuretik" being of preference to coachmen and grooms. This would be a similar concept as porter in that there is a beer associated with a particular profession. I guess it's like modern swill being targeted to the sports fan o...
