Re: Bellwoods Brewery

was in my old neighborhood tonight for a whisky tasting at The Caledonian. Decided to walk down Ossington to burn some calories and pick up some overpriced beer, 'cause that's what geeks do: 1 Witchshark 1 Hellwoods 2 Roman Candle 25 bucks and change ... Bellwoods: "the Ardbeg of beer" (de...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

A strong hop presence would have made this beer so much more complex. Maybe so, but regular Molson drinkers* would probably be disgusted by the bitterness that would result from that complexity. My guess is most line extensions are aimed at regular drinkers of a brand's main offerings, looking for ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I ended up with a 4 pack of Aphro last night rather then the John H.r.molson & Bros 1908. It was good but I'd go with the Bolshevik Bastard over the Aphro any day. Could it be the 5 month old Aphrodite (thanks to KGBO's 19th century distribution "system") isn't very fresh compared to ...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

^^^^ That post was from California. I assume they are both there for the RateBeer awards. Bellwood's and Trillium were both named Top 100 brewers in the world. http://www.ratebeer.com/RateBeerBest/BestBrewers-World2016.asp yet someone won't drive down from Markham because their beer's not worth it....

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

Yeah the Trillium folks also posted a photo of their Ratebeer badge so it's probably for that. I've never even heard of Bellwoods but it seems to be the most popular thread on the Bar towel. I'm rarely in Toronto these days. Do they have anything at the LCBO/TBS or bars outside of TO? No LCBO / TBS...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Lagunitas IPA was bottled Jan 11, 2016. From Fresh Beer Only... Lagunitas: Uses a bottling date. Julian date code which is written in black on the neck of the bottle. There are 2 lines. First line has 3 digits followed by a space, then one more digit. The first three digits represent the day of the...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

Glad to see arguing over the merits of one BRAND vs another are no different in the beer community compared to the whisky community. Beer is no different than any other BRAND in the economy. Pricing often has nothing to do with costs of production but with what fans of the brand are willing to pay c...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

some of these posts are ridiculous. absolutely ridiculous. first, not to pick on you, portwood, but if you're driving out from Markham, didn't you know what to expect beer-wise (or even price-wise) before you came? why wouldn't you go there any time soon? i live in the east end and, in the past mon...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

absolutely baffled as to why there's still bottles of this left at the shop Twelve bucks per 500 ml might have something to do with it. My thoughts exactly. For a brewery who's products have extremely limited reach (zero distribution) its difficult to expect locals to keep buying multiple bottles o...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Seems that each year they'll grant one new word out of the vulgar dictionary and allow it to enter the sanctity of the liquor store. Im glad they've given bastard immunity. Bolshevik bastard, kentucky bastard, arrogant bastard, fat bastard wines, so on.. LCBO being primarily a wine merchant, they m...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

The hops will drop out of anything you cellar, regardless of the ABV. If there's a lot of body there, you might find that develops and changes over time, but after a while you won't have an IPA any more. Noted, thanks I'll drink the 2 I bought yesterday, and if I like it, hope the lcbo keeps the li...

Being an IPA and "only" 7% is it something that can be cellared? if so, what would be the "best before date"?
