Re: Cask Days 2017

I had a thought that the Sunday "Family Friendly" change was (at least in part) due to the success of the Brewer's Backyard at the Brick Works. Maybe I'm perhaps thinking too much of myself though :) It's too bad to hear that it wasn't actually very family *friendly*, just all-ages. Anyway...

Re: Big Pint

Bier Markt Esplanade was a travesty in value, service and quality. Truly awful and a rip off. Has it changed since they re-opened with the Goose Island brew pub? The Goose Island side has a distinct design and atmosphere, and even though the two are connected the Goose side is (thankfully) nothing ...

Re: Cask Days 2017

FOBAB in Chicago doesn't release their beer list until you walk in the front door. Last year they had 400 beers. I kind of like the surprise of walking in and exploring, but I understand that people want to target certain beers to try.

Re: are you drinking a lie?

Bump to this thread as it was on my mind and I wanted to post this exact link. Are people bothered by private equity owning brewers the way that they are with large brewery ownership? I'd argue that private equity has a singular focus on making money (and not good beer), which makes them in some way...

Re: 555 Brewing Co. - Picton

Thanks for the update. Footprint won the Best of the Fest at the GTAs on Wednesday and I have to admit I had never heard of them up to that point.

Re: Zwanze

Hard to say if it was legendary. On tap when I was there was also Gueuze, Saint Lamvinus & Vigneronne IIRC. There were also a number of bottles that people were clamouring for (I remember Lou Pepe, as that ran out while I was standing at the bar). Personally I don't think Zwanze needs to be coup...

Re: Saturation? Maverick Brewing

Also, their brewer is Andrew Crowder, ex of Muskoka Brewery. Not sure if that was mentioned here yet.

Re: Saturation? Maverick Brewing

Stopped in this week to record a podcast. Had a sampler flight and all the beer was perfectly fine, but I was a bit distracted interviewing at the same time so will want to give it another go. An impressive space - large interior space, patio fronting on Bathurst, brewery in there and a separated be...

Re: Zwanze

What a time for beer in Toronto when I could just stroll into Volo yesterday at 7pm and walk up to the bar and order a Zwanze. Didn't need to worry about a ticket, didn't need to deal with lineups. And there was 20 more things I wanted to try but only wanted to do a quick stop. We're so flush with g...

Re: Golden Tap Awards 2017

I was really happy with the spread of winners across the province. Merit is an awesome spot and I've been there are couple of times. I haven't been to Arabella but obviously have to make a trip soon. I don't think V&V is a surprising win - I think many brewers prefer the classic, drinkable style...

Brewed in Toronto?

Same thing with Omnipollo I believe. That's the Craft Brand Co. guys - they're contract brewing their repped brands locally at their own brewery.
