As to the other point...where did this "wine bottle rule" come from?.... This isn't Europe.. (2 excerpts.) It's an interesting point, and I don't mean to discourage appropriate tipping. If you love the meal, sure, tip well. Not everyone tips fully on alcohol with a meal though, fact. The ...

There was a long lab delay with Chicory Stout and then it had to be re-priced (we're offering it at what I think is a super price...$1.95) so we it'll start drifting out to stores late next week. That is 55 cents chaper than the (excellent) Raison D'etre was at xmas.:D I wonder what kept the lab so...

I somewhat agree JC.... it's just expensive to go out in this city, unless you can happily languish on the fringes (Only Cafe, Castro's Lounge - the bottles can be easily a FEW BUCKS cheaper than downtown, putting less of a crimp on how many rounds you will or can buy.) But you aren't going to be in...

Purism in beer is a slight myth, as brewers always blended non-BEER flavorings in beer (forget combining 'pure' beers) esp. those Belgians with their fruits herbs and sugars so all bets are off for 'purity' where legendary style is defined by distinctions. Every great beer is a recipie of at least v...

Too bad this had to come in through the LCBO..I can see then handling this beer badly. A mixed blessing. If you grab a sealed case as soon as it arrives it won't be light-struck at all. That's a great thing. Good to know Pootz this is a beer to buy right away though, before the store temperature wr...

It is not I have only once ever had a bottle that was just starting to go off, and it was from a restaurant that had very low turnover on it. I'd guess it was close to a year old at that point, and it was still very drinkable. Storage is everything. Michael Jackson's saying goes 'if you see a beer ...

I was in Kingston, all three stores were selling out fast. You ASSUMEd I meant Toronto. Toronto is NOT the center of the universe, you people! Well everywhere does mean everywhere and you didn't say you were in Kingston. However Toronto is INDEED the centre of the universe. We think it is an...

Having tried this one, my gut instinct is to drink it fresh as possible. It has a nice fragile character I'd rather hate to lose.

I was in Kingston, all three stores were selling out fast. You ASSUMEd I meant Toronto. Toronto is NOT the center of the universe, you people! You posted that Propeller was selling out on a Toronto Beer website. What a crazy assumption. I also mentioned that there was lots of available province wid...

And the Propeller was almost sold out everywhere Let's not go spreading panic rumours, the LCBO site shows lots of Propellor available in Toronto and throughout the Province. I was in Kingston, all three stores were selling out fast. You ASSUMEd I meant Toronto. Toronto is NOT the center of the uni...

I think you'll like it, it's got big punchy flavours, much more so than UK imports that are not bottle-conditioned (a small category, unfortunately). I did not find it any sweeter than many Belgians at that strength level. (By the way I've had the Grant's Ale Cask Reserve whisky and it's not bad). ...

I also recall the LCBO claiming the bottles would glow long after the switch to the non-glow-in-the-dark bottles. All part of their striving to be 'a more responsible retailer.' :-? I did think this beer had bock-ish notes, very natural and German tasting somehow. Over there (Bavaria) beer tends to...

I thought this Rogue was pretty pedestrian by their high standards. Still decent though, just king of bland. Wow, the KING of bland... sheesh! I admit they have some pretty jazzy brews, I thought the Dead Guy Maibock was just more 'traditional.' (I could session it and I know it would get nicer eac...

Propeller ESB - it was okay, will need another to see if I care for it. Somewhat grainy flavor. Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout - Beautiful nice, roasty stout, starts slightly sour with aromas and flavors of coffee and chocolate, just a hint of acrid burntness, sourness soon transforms into a light inte...
