I would doubt that. I was unknowingly served a sample of the Pilsner, and I thought it was the Red based on the colour and non-descript beer taste.

Re: latest brew-it-yourself commodity

I was a little tempted to buy this at my HBS store last Friday. I was picking up goodies to make an all-grain Amber when I saw it. The guy at the store insisted it was "pretty good". Um.. define "pretty good"? http://www.clickabrew.com/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=90&...

Looks like an overpriced, extract based system.

Can't say I'm a fan of the "darker" Unibroue beers (Maudite and Trois Pistoles). I find their spicy house yeast clashes with the darker malts.

"These lagers originate from Paulaner monks who brewed it in 1634 and are most popular during the Lenten Starkbierzeit ‘strong beer time’, which begins on or before St. Joseph’s Day (March 19)." Yeah, then again right on Wikipedia (gotta love the misinfo-net ): "Traditional bock Bock...

It also looks like they stopped posting comments. I submitted mine on Tuesday, but they never appeared.

I gotta say that Delirium Tremens is about the most refreshing "big" beer I have ever come across. It has a ridiculously low finishing gravity, "zingy" citrus and spices, and ample carbonation that doesn't come off as harsh. Orval, Saison Dupont and De Ranke Bitter XX would be ot...

Ha! We've got 2 DIPAs available on the prairies at the moment; Alley Kat Bad Hare Day was released for Easter, and Bushwakker Trephination was released last weekend at the ALES Open Homebrew Competition. And both are available in bottles. I guess it is true - prairie folks have balls!

It's been awhile since I've had one, but I like the aroma, not so much the taste. I agree with the person who said it tastes artificial.

And I prefer Rogue's Shakespeare Stout to their Chocolate Stout (which is just the Shakespeare stout plus chocolate flavouring added at bottling).

I am going to be brewing with a guy from work mainly, as grub is too far away from me to be really practical. I hope to be brewing every 2nd to 3rd weekend once the snow is gone. "once the snow is gone" What kind of excuse is that? I brewed out on my patio in January when it was -27C (-40...

Re: Stalled fermentation?

that yeast is probably fine if you want a big stout. that yeast should be able to hit 71-75% attenuation, but you're just under 50%. i think it's more a matter of fermentability than the yeast at this point. I'm not saying it is the yeast either, but you have to take it into account when formulatin...

If we are talking all-time, it would be Bushwakker SOB (Strathdee Old Barleywine), brewed in 2004 by current Half Pints owner/brewer Dave Rudge. People in the know across Canada still have bottles tucked away.

Garrison Imperial Black Lager - glad that Nash sent me a few of these to stash away, too bad one broke in transit.

I'll also add in that 1084 is not very attenuative anyways, I wouldn't expect it to get a 1.074 beer anywhere near 1.020.
