Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

I was recently surprised by Granville Island IPA. Not the greatest beer out there but it's decent given how lukewarm I have been to their other brews. It's widely available on tap around Vancouver, serving pretty much the role that Rickard's does here in generic bars. That alone is worth a bit of pr...

For now we have to stand by the fact that nothing has been proven in court, however, I am seriously disappointed in the due process. Just a few weeks back, posters here, despite their distaste for this guy, supported the legal process and praised what appeared to be a fair trial. This may still have...

When I was there in March, the best selection was to be found at Firefly and Brewery Creek. Maybe Viti was having a stock problem when I was there, but they didn't have much of a selection at all. But check them all out. Sometimes you can find something extra special hiding in one of those stores. ...

It amazes me that the beverage industry is so backwards in inventory/packaging/logistics. I don’t know if it will take large players, small or government co-operation (oops, oxymoron!) But the simple answer is modern barcodes. This is easy to add to packaging lines without pushing costs up too far f...

Two words: Essential Service!

No wait, brewing is an essential service. Not sure a retail monopoly is. :-?

Thanks for posting, I'm heading out in a month and haven't been for about 2 years now. Really looking forward to beer hunting. I'm bringing extra large luggage. If you're stocking up, I've recommended it before and still do: Check out Viti on Seymour near Dunsmuir. Their selection keeps getting mor...

And the Swans coconut beer you had actually isn't a stout, it's a porter. I saw bottles of it at Brewery Creek a week or two ago but since neither the ingredient or the style are amongst my favorites I skipped it. Yes, it is a porter. That was a typo. The added ingredient raises suspicions for me, ...

B.C. ramblings

I just had a short trip out to Vancouver and made some pleasant discoveries. First up has to be Central City Red Racer (Surrey based). I really don't remember coming across this brewery before, but maybe they have more history than my feeble mind can handle. I had an ESB from them that flat out rank...

I'm curious. I never noticed that these "coolers" had taken over the world. Are there any actually worth trying? They just look like sugar and vodka to me, but maybe I'm missing something. Is there such a thing as a craft cooler? All right, all joking aside. How does pushing so much 'junk ...

That was not my point. My point was that to get free enterprise, we should not have to return to a social conservative backwater with spiteful tribes out to undermine each other in the name of ideology.

There has got to be a better way to get rid of the TBS monopoly. Free enterprise should not automatically require a return to the stone age.

Besides it's a little incongruous since the TBS is just the kind of monopoly on corporate welfare the conservatives so treasure.

Hey Tapsucker--thanks for the support. Every little bit helps....We need mavericks like you to help the inexperienced turn the micro corner (and they say once you turn the corner, you never look back). Did you get the organic hops/no GMO version? FYI -Antigravity is our lawn mowin' beer for those t...

I needed some light beer to offer at a party over the weekend so I decided to pick up some Anti Gravity. It's not a style I'm usually attracted to, but I have to say it was pretty good. I'm glad I tried it and it went over very well with the non-craft experienced guests. Actually all the micros I of...

It is interesting that some marketing person decided to target this demographic in a country with such a declining birthrate. Talk about niche!
