The Dockside is plagued by poor quality issues. Each and every time I've been there the beer is sub par. I've been to all of them and they all have pros and cons. Yaletown and Steamworks are kind of like Milestones but with better beer (but not outstanding). I agree on Dockside. The food's pretty b...

BC updates anyone?

I have a trip to Victoria and Vancouver coming up. It's been a while since I have been out there.

I plan to drop in at Spinnaker's and the Swan in Victoria and probably Alibi Rm in Vancouver. Does anybody have any other good beer suggestions or know of any new places I should check out?

Re: Okay, Who Brought the Bud?

I shut up the cottage last weekend. Every Fall, I go up north with a few buddies to "work" on the grounds and prepare the cabin for its Winter nap. I brought some Great Lakes 666, and others brought Southern Tier, Rouge Nut Brown, Creemore Pilsner, and by the end of the weekend it was all...

On the contrary, effective January 2008 ALL new Ontario breweries must make at least three of the following styles: Imperial Stout, Double or Single IPA, Saison, Doppelbock, Belgian Strong ale or a real ESB. Is there a different rule driving all the fruit beer to market or is it just an excess supp...

The one day amnesty "on charges of public drunkenness, gambling, speeding, and other minor offences" is charming too. Unfortunately it wasn't long before the legion halls got a bad reputation in this town for the simple sin of being a place where those that served their country could get s...

Some additional thoughts: I wonder how alcohol regulators feel about pricing that encourages more consumption. I mean, we already see it in all packaging that favours better pricing per ounce on larger containers, but it does go against the stated principle of encouraging moderation. Also, I often s...

They were nice enough to pack me a growler to go. This is a very good beer. I hope it stays on offer.

I'm not crazy about the Nickel Brook. The rest sounds well put together. They could have gone either way; throw in a good autumn warmer treat like a stout, porter or pumpkin ale, or entice the craft-phobic crowd with a Steamwhistle or Stone Hammer.

So to break today's long cold walk through the sleet, I stopped at the Bow & Arrow for a warm up on the way home. The chalk board outside called out the cry of local beer like the bow has for years. Once inside, the taps were seriously limited to macros. The locals were easy ones like Tankhouse ...
