I've known people that have worked for various auto manufacturers... some of the stuff that goes on there is unreal. Like smoking a crack pipe while working on the line (somehow the union got him help & he kept his job). I'm not surprised they use alarms... and I'm not surprised cars cost so mu...

Prince George - BC beer scene

I need to spend a week hanging out with lumberjacks. Does anybody have any good pub suggestions in Prince George? I imagine there must be someplace that serves up good BC micros. Unfortunately most of the people I know from around there think that alcohol is the devil's work. Kind of scares me, I ho...

I guess they couldn't be outdone by Tim's firing someone over a blob of lard and sugar. As a marketing person, my radar quickly catches businesses that have no respect for their employees. It is usually a sign of so many other deficiencies, including no respect for the customer or just selling shit ...

A Guinness drinker can be persuaded to drink another stout if that's what's on tap. A stout drinker will not necessarily drink Guinness. A number of bars carry a 'house stout' that I think Amsterdam brews and private labels for them. I don't know what the commitment is, but it's quite good and might...

Harder to find, but also a good gateway is F&M Stonehammer Pislner.

Don't be afraid to try something hoppy either. Often it's the malty character that turns off macro to micro movers. Black Oak Pale might get a good result.

So many beers use carbonation(or nitrogen) as part of the flavour/mouth experience. It's hard to say. Is this some sort of 'one hand clapping' question?

Sorry to be insensitive...I guess I'll second the cask ale suggestion. The Granite will even let you take some home if you ask nice.

Yanjing makes me think of Tiger, and Tiger makes me think of stupid nights in Singapore with the accompaniment of really bad, but only just affordable beer. Tiger is light years ahead of Yanjing, and at least you can also get good beer in Singapore if you don't like the Tiger! To be fair, I had a c...

I tried the Yanjing in China. You would really have to be loyal to the PRC to go out of your way for one of those. The tapwater is not considered safe but is generally a tastier bet than the Yanjing :-? It's also not too common to find a cold beer there. Lukewarm or on ice it still tastes almost as ...

Thanks, I needed a good laugh  Seriously, we should support this perspective on 'beer' any chance we get. The less people that get turned on to good ingredients, the less pressure on already scarce resources like hopps, barley etc. In other words, more beer for us while the hosers swill soda pop!

Just came back from Vegas as well... had a rather bland dinner last Sunday at Gordon Biersch. Hard to find a reason to go back and that was the sentiment shared by a group of us. The service was far from enthusiastic, staff knew very little about the beers. The food was barely ok. Food to plate rat...

blonde Dunkel? whaa??
Yeah I wondered too, but I thought I'd try it to see what they were up to. The description sounded good, but the beer was lame. It supports my case on how bad this place has become.

South of the border disappointment

This probably should go in the reviews section, but I thought I'd share a quick warning with everybody. I was just down in Las Vegas and one of the usually reliable beer spots, Gordon Biersch, has really taken a dive for the worse. The food at this location was awful (it has been excellent for years...
