Re: Bellwoods Brewery
I recently had a bottle of the brett peach and apricot Monogamy that I've been sitting on for about 6 or 7 months I think. I really liked the way it developed. While the hops have faded, the beer has developed some great earthy flavours and the fruit has held up. I wish I had held on to a few more,...

That's a good point.Craig wrote:Taxes, outside of HST, are by volume in Ontario. This means that they're fairly large on every day beer, but much less significant on a 15$ bomber. It works out to 70-90 cents or so a litre for craft brewers iirc.

Lambda, for whatever reason, has always been the one to not sell out right away. I'm not really sure why, it's a great beer. Maybe because world class quads are actually something the LCBO stock at a great price? I think it's just a style that people tend to not go crazy over (myself included). I e...

And in Ontario we have excise taxes and 13% HST added to the cost of our beer.BakaGaijin wrote:Comparisions to the US is a bit tricky. It's not really apples to apples. The US has legislated separation between brewer, distributor, and retailer. Each player takes a cut which increases costs significantly.

i still don't understand his post. especially if he has a cognac and scotch collection that would make my toes curl. unless by that he means "the quality of scotch is so bad your toes will curl with pain." want a cash grab? by a good to excellent scotch and pay over $100/bottle for it. fi...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
No worries! I'm an old wine connoisseur that moved to beer and have a cognac, scotch and bourbon collection that would make most people's toes curl so BBA brews are definitely for me. For others not so much but can understand where they are coming from. To tell you the truth I enjoy a good BBA stou...

I heard a number a lot lower than that. A 'smith' is generally associated with a trade or craftsmen i.e. Blacksmith, Goldsmith, Locksmith, Gunsmith, Bladesmith, etc. I have also assumed that AleSmith was a play on these words. i.e. someone who crafts beer. Hence the Blacksmith anvil in the logo. I just assumed that Belgian wasn't being s...

@Bakagaijin - fair enough. All your points are valid. Sometimes it can just get really tiring around here to see the same people post the same things over and over and over. Didn't mean to single you out as you are certainly not the only person guilty of this. Hell, I have probably been guilty of it...

For every positive post atomeyes has about Bellwoods, you seem to have one negative post about their prices. What's the difference?BakaGaijin wrote:^^^

Stopped by yesterday for the first time. They had two IPAs available and I grabbed one of each. Had the Inner IPA last night and didn't like it at all. Couldn't even finish the bottle. I am hoping for better things from the Shumie IPA when I crack that bottle. The maze to get to the bottle shop was ...

Re: US Beer Releases (premier, consumer, vbm)
I noticed that as well. I think it largely has to do with the price. Great beer, but not worth $10 for a small bottle.sprague11 wrote:Bomb went from being behind the counter at Premier to being a shelf turd in record time.
