OK Joe, When I first tried a porter, it was Molson's Porter. It was a dry, flavourful beer, at least in 1975...Now for the "shame", I drank this beeer directly from the "stubbies" it came in never once pouring it into a glass until, one day, I noticed that there was some brownish...

Matt, The "Duke" is really not a place for me either. Just up the street there's the Arrow and the Loon, the Bow and Arrow's sister pub in Ottawa. A much better place. Jon, I'll try to convince Christopher at C'est What? to try it out. That will make it a little closer than Hamilton...

Scotch Irish Brewed its first I.P.A. last Wednesday. I have been sampling it out of the fermenter and it is excellent. If you like a beer with body, aroma and bitterness this is it. We used Chinook hops (lots and lots of 'em!)to give it a "Pacific Northwest" profile. It comes out at 5.5% a...

Another issue is freshness. Most beers, with the exception of very strong or bottle conditioned ones, are at their best when they leave the brewery. The long voyages, exposure to fluoresecent and daylight, handling and temperature changes really affect the long term keeping qualities of beer. This i...

Ah, Fosters! I can remember going there in the late 80's and enjoying Wellington cask ales. The owners, true Brits, were accustomed to the vagaries and work involved with this kind of ale and served it beautifully. Every time I travelled to Toronto from Ottawa I would stop in. Haven't been since the...

Matt, the answer could be that someone else in the province was looking for the same beer. By calling 1-800-ONT-LCBO you can ask them to search all the stores for secret stashes of a particular product. If someone from Sarnia wants 20 Bottles of Celebrator, the LCBO will get your store to ship it to...

Cass, I had some light denim button down shirts done with my company name stitched on them. They cost about $22.00 each to produce. I ordered them to wear myself as I usually wear that type of shirt and they were cheaper than buying them at a regular store. You might want to consider this. Either wa...

When I get T-shirts made for the brewery, I usually order the minimum lot (72). The total cost is around $10.00-11.00 per shirt including design. I choose the "Fruit of the Loom" next to finest quality weight.
Also,a simple printed logo would be easy to do and could even be done on you PC's.

The Sgt. Major's IPA will be done as both a cask ale and filtered draught. We will launch the beer at the 'Judge on April 27 in its cask form. Since it is a limited run item, we will only be casking a few firkins, so when they run out, regular draught will be available. Knowing the judge, the may ha...

There were 12 different casks from the UK. I tried them all. Oakham JHB was not quite as good as I remember it, but I chalk this up to the journey. Dent Aviator,Woodforde's Wherry, York's Yorkshire Terrier, Gale's HSB, Mordue's Radgie Gadgie, Swale IPA, RCH Old Slug Porter, Wye Valley's Dorothy Good...
