We participated in the Chicago Real Ale Festival on Feb 28-Mar.1. The venue, Goose Island Wrigleyville is a beautiful brew pub which produces fine beer. There were over 175 cask ales in competition in various catagories. American brewers seem to like their cask beers on the strong side, as the avera...

Esprit, have you noticed any problems with cloudy (very) bottles of Brutal Bitter? I looked over 6 bottles in an Ottawa LCBO and all were heavily sedimented. Any other reports of this? The flavour is still excellent, but a beer like this, not bottled conditioned, looks unappetising when it is this c...

Thanks Joe!!! I truly appreciate your comments. They make my struggle seem more worthwhile. Dry Hop Bitter and a cask conditioned version of Black Irish will be going to Chicago's Real Ale Festival next weekend. That is if we can resolve all the customs and shipping B.S.... Maybe we can bring more g...

Hooray for Cyril but before we go whole hog and lose our minds in the rush to beer nirvana, lets ask the important question... Will the LCBO just get out of retail or will they still be responsible for warehousing and distribution of beverage alcohol in Ontario. If they propose to just be a governin...

I'm delivering 2 firkins of our Black Irish Plain Porter to the Winking Judge in Hamilton today. This is the first time we have done a cask conditioned version of it and it is very yummy. This is one of the ales we are submitting to the Chicago Real Ale Festival and outside of that venue, it will ON...

Scotch Irish Brewing is going to attend this year's festival, and we're submitting two real ales into the competition as well! Our Dry Hop Bitter is going to be there and we have just begun casking a limited amount of our Black Irish Plain Porter especially for the show. These will be the first ever...

...and malt don't hurt either! Using a small proportion of flaked or torrified wheat or barley does an excellent job. Corn, rice, sorghum and other not so noble grains and cereals don't cut it. And now for the plug... Scotch Irish Brewing uses malted 2-row barley, U.V treated water, hops,(not extrac...

Cobalt in beer...are any of you old enough to remember the Dow Ale scandal that rocked the Canadian beer industry in 1966? It seems that a number of beer drinkers in the Quebec City area suddenly died of heart failure. Somehow it was leaked that the presence of Cobalt in the beer, used as a head ret...

I don't think Dragon's Breath has returned. Oddly enough, it wasn't that big a seller in its home market (Ottawa and the valley), so Hart may not release it again.

Happy New Year all! Scotch Irish Brewing added Bartowel to our links about two months ago. From our log, it seems that the sight is getting a lot of hits from it. Our sight is at http://www.scotchirish.on.ca.
