I had a pint of Black Oak Nutcracker at C'est What? on Dec. 27. What a surprise. From the look of it, I expected a more malt accented beer in the style of an English Old Ale. What I found was a beautifully flavoured deep brown ale, with a good smack of hops balancing the malty background. Very yummy...

Thank you Publican for your encouraging words. You're right when you say that if the average drinker drank my ales things would be different. Maybe Molson, Labatt and Sleeman would have to re-evaluate their approach to brewing...I will never sell Scotch Irish anyway. It is a true labour of love (as ...

Ah, Publican 'tis the dilemma we face. The big brewers make money while the micros make beer. As for the lack of character in some craft ales, we may have only ourselves to blame. The average beer consummer is becoming more sophisticated, but it is a slow process. Beer culture is eons ahead of what ...

Sorry about the blank message, computers are, well...not my specialty. I have been to Belgium on several occasions and I have found that the average Belgian treats Stella like we treat 50 or Export. Very pedestrian. As for Leffe and La Trappe Abbaye beers, these are often confused with the traditiona...

Glad to see you like the Brakspeare ales, even though they are hopped with Goldings, Styrian Goldings ( a fuggle clone), Whitbread Golding Variety and Challenger. They are indeed classics of the Thames Valley.

Have you tried Rogue Chocolate Stout at Joe's? Whoa momma! Chocolate truffles in a glass balanced by 68IBU. Outstanding. The Brown Dog is really interesting too. Tastes and smell like a "digestive biscuit". I was in Toronto on the 13th of Nov. and stopped in at Joe's for a "snack"...
