Technical question about gut bacteria...

I have been experimenting with eating more fermented foods in an effort to improve my gut flora. Alcohol in excess, of course, is harmful to the good flora of the gut. So, my question is, are there styles of beer which contain greater amounts of helpful gut bacteria? My gut (no pun intended) tells m...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Nickel Brook Café Del Bastardo, which is outstanding and which I greatly prefer to the Winey Bastard I had about Christmas time last year. As I recall, the wine aspect was more pronounced than would have been ideal.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Cascade Brewing Sang Royal 2016. This is an outstanding beer and a relatively rare opportunity for someone living in Ontario, yet at $26.75 or whatever for a 750ml bottle it will definitely be one and done. I also have one bottle of the Vitis Noble 2016.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Duvel. A classic. It truly stands the test of time and is always one of the world's great beers, regardless of the flux, fads and fickleness of the beer market at the time. I forgot a few 750ml bottles for a while, the stuff ages like a champ, kind of winelike. Plus the cool glass with it! Incident...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

IPA No. 12. Quite nice, lots of citrusy tangerine along with melon, white grape and berry notes. Hazy and smooth, liked it a lot better than 11 which I found had a cloying and gross amount of lactose sweetness. That said, $4.95 for a non double IPA seems steep. As much as I liked 12 I'm finding a l...

La Trappe Tripel, found at the LCBO in the very small town of Alexandria, Ontario. A pleasant surprise.

Online order problems...

So, I’ve done three online orders, one for home delivery and two for store delivery. The home delivery went off without a hitch. The first store delivery resulted in me getting a nice case of Spanish wine instead of the beer I ordered. Turns out they screwed up the paperwork, which we eventually sor...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Hitachino Nest Nipponia, which was part of an online order. It’s classified as an Imperial Pilsner, but I’m getting more Barley Wine in the nose, taste and body. Noticed that the best before date is December 21, 2019, so wondering when this beer was actually produced and what changes may have occurr...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

La Trappe Quad. Definitely a step below Rochefort 10 and Westy 12 but a very good quad nonetheless. I agree with this assessment. However, if you get the chance to age it 4 or 5 years, it improves dramatically. It becomes more complex. that reminds me.. I don't think St. Bernardus sent us the Chris...

Re: Sexism in beer labels in Ontario

I'm not dismissing the importance or truth of what you are saying. People have all sorts of variations of ability to change things through their decisions. Yes this discussion is about picking off the easy ones, like "hmmm, I have a choice of 20 IPAs in front of me at the LCB0 (definitely not a...
