The Dark 266 is new; I picked up a six the other week, but think it's been around for a month or so. As the name implies, it's a brown ale, 4.5 abv, with some nutty, toasty & chocolaty notes to it. I've only had it in the bottle format, and I find that it has too much of a watery finish to it. I...

Re: Article in G&M on impact of LCBO's Food & Drink

Main points of contention from other Canadian magazines: - LCBO does not allow other magazines to be sold in their stores Is that a fair claim? I haven't been to the Crossroads LCBO in a while, but when I used to go there, they had one or two wine magazines available. While I can understand the pos...

Re: What are the best Macros we've got here?

Yes it betrays a displayed unjustifiable hubris from it's user. So I come across like a total jerk, do I? Maybe that's all I am; dunno. What I do know is that on boards like this, RB, and BA, macro brews get slammed so repetitively as to suggest that there is a bit of a knee-jerk mentality at work....

Re: Transitioning

Their other brands in 9 packs have been "grandfathered" in but not the Dark. Nice way to have your marketing strategy compromised. Is the Dark 266 supposed to by a year-round addition to the Cameron line, or is it more a one-off like the Sleeman Fine Porter? I'll give a try on tap to see ...

Re: Transitioning

Anything Cameron's should do the trick ... interesting but not too far out. I dunno -- if I had first sampled Cameron's Dark 266, I would have been tempted to pass on their entire line-up. Watery is not a phrase that ought be associated with a beer. I was thinking more along the lines of the stuff ...

Haven't tried their Honey Brown, likely because I'm not a fan of the Red. Will give it a go sometime this week; thanks for the suggestion.

Re: What are the best Macros we've got here?

The ones you like I suppose....no one can tell you what you like. Rating boards like RB, BA and this form exist as records of OTHER's impressions of the beers they have tasted....some times there's aligned consensus many times not...it's all subjective and driven by personal taste. Does the phrase ...

Re: What are the best Macros we've got here?

Might not be a popular question here, given how some of the board's members have treated micros like Mill Street Huh? Aside from some criticism back when they launched with their Organic Lager, Mill Street is one of the most well-regarded breweries on this forum. And yet when the Mill Street crew f...

What are the best Macros we've got here?

Might not be a popular question here, given how some of the board's members have treated micros like Mill Street, but it is one honestly asked. I did not commence my beer drinking days with Canadian or Export -- Corona & Guiness if you need to know -- and I've not tried many mainstream beers. I ...

How about the Rogue?
What he said -- should we be expecting it to come in prior to the summer release, or should we just start stocking up on the local micros now?

Cellaring Beer

I've had a few beers cellaring away for a while now, and recently have just started to harvest the fruits of my labour (namely, resisting temptation). I did make a rookie mistake -- not noting when every bottle was purchased -- but have found it not to impede upon my enjoyment of a good brew. I do h...

Re: Private Ordering

Any luck with other California brewers like Stone, Alesmith, or North Coast? Heard from the LCBO a couple of weeks back regarding the possibility of obtaining some Old Rasputin from North Coast; the brewery had a minimum order of 72 cases. Thanks for the Quebec-related links btw -- will have to loo...

Insofar as I can recall from my conversation with a Unibroue rep at this summer's beer fest, the Unibroue 11 will be released in the same manner as the 10 -- i.e.: limited in number, and not available at the SAQ. I would imagine that it should be available soon, as the French version of http://www.u...
