Re: Modern trends

Which lagers are worth seeking out right now Sean. I also ordered a 4 of Ice Cold Beer to try Well definitely Godspeed as established now. From what I see on their shop right now I'd highly recommend the Otsukaresama dortmunder, it's excellent. Can't go wrong with any of their stuff, but since we'r...

Re: Modern trends

I think the "trends" part of all this is where the issue is. Hazy IPAs, pastry stouts etc. all have examples where there is an early beer in that style that was amazing. Then everyone started doing them including a lot of brewers that are less skilled or don't have that style down. This p...

Re: Modern trends

Maybe they are maybe they aren't.. I feel like breweries are deliberately putting them out to try and get people off the hazy beers, or to keep stuff in stock instead of flying off the shelves in a day.. But they usually end up sitting in stock for 4x as long even though they're 1/2 the price.. My ...

Re: Modern trends

That's an interesting description. A lot of the"New World" wines are also very loud, giving you all this berry and spice box upfront at the expense of complexity and development over several minutes... its all about 'size' and immediacy of impact even at the expense of identity of the win...

Re: Modern trends

RE the first two styles, I think they’re interesting to people like me because we’ve been drinking lagers and Pilsner for decades now, and are chasing loud flavours and noses I actually am liking the micro IPA and nano IPA with low ABV and lots of haze. I just bought a can of Town Brewery Chill As ...

Re: Modern trends

Heavily fruited sours are often more sweet than sour. Like if your beer is 50% fruit juice, is it still beer? Much like the hazy IPAs I feel like these often don't really have a beer flavour any more. This right here, I agree wholeheartedly. I see stuff like the "slushy" beers that are re...

Re: Coronavirus

I'd love to see a breakdown on how breweries are affected by this. I read a CBC article about how some brewers couldn't keep their online stores stocked because of unprecedented demand. Of course, that's coupled with keg sales disappearing and probably temporarily laying off a huge chunk of staff. ...

Re: Strawberry Beers

Half shameless plug, half being helpful: Whiprsnapr released a Strawberry beer today, they ship Ontario-wide. Their stuff typically sells fast. Found by brewed.today: https://twitter.com/BrewedToday/status/1258796842336354304 I will concur that brew.today is a great resource, I check it pretty much...

Re: COVID19 affect on craft brewring industry

Belgian obviously knows what he meant better, but I didn't read it that way at all. I wouldn't call it dismissal, but rather Ontario's beer scene has become so good it's negated the need to drive down to the US to get excellent beer. Which if you think about it isn't preferable to getting great bee...

Re: COVID19 affect on craft brewring industry

Let us hope the best survive, there's some really good talent and hard work going into Ontario brewing such that the quality & range of brews we have didn't even exist 10-15 years ago. Definitely agree with this. We have done an excellent job of catching up (more or less) to the great beer nati...

Re: Strawberry Beers

Too bad about the Barnstormer. Came across this one: https://shop.benchbrewing.com/collectio ... e-wildwood

Bench typically puts out solid beers, this one is a barrel aged sour fermented on Pinot Noir and strawberries.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'm scared to go out due to the miasma, so have been mostly hunkered down with home brew. However I did find something interesting in the old survival cellar on Saturday. One last bottle of Central City/Flying Monkeys Red on Red collaboration. I'm glad I bought a bunch back in the day, this really ...
