im just trolling for Railway City homers Len, yno 'ow it iz Ah yes, the requisite homer suspicion. See, this is precisely why I felt the need to speak up. I've tried many of the great IPAs and DIPAs from Stone, DFH, Southern Tier, Bell's, Great Divide, Avery, Sierra Nevada, etc. While this obviousl...

That smoke-like flavour... I'm not good at pin-pointing off flavours. I should really do a BJCP course & train my buds. I've wondered if it's phenolics from the yeast, some other organism, or some sort of cleaner/water-treatment thing or even sulfites (burnt match flavour)? Either way, somethin...

Working my way through a second pint of Dead Elephant - the bottled version from the LCBO - and I'm convinced that it's under appreciated. I really enjoy the bubblegum, jam, berry fruit, and doughy elements, which add a unique twist to this IPA. For me it drinks like a highly sessionable pale ale. N...

I will keep everyone posted as to when exactly the Dark will be on the shelves and which LCBOs you'll be able to find it at! Thanks for the update Bill. I like all of F&M's beers (haven't tried the Light though), so I'm champing at the bit to get some of this Dark! :D Glad to hear it'll be maki...

Belhaven Best Ale

Might be late on this, but Belhaven Best Ale is now available in 440ml cans at The Beer Store: http://www.thebeerstore.ca/Beers/branddetails.asp?id=2217 Beer Advocate considers it "worthy" (B-) while Rate Beer gives it a 26 overall. Sounds like a run-of-the-mill English bitter. I'm gonna t...

Finally got my hands on this yesterday and it is drinking really well. Pours a deep golden hue with an amber tinge, a sliver of white head, and globs of lacing on the footed pilsner glass. Smell and taste are cherry cookie and medicinal aromas, bready German malts, wheat, sticky bock sweetness, spic...

Haven't tried the cask, but I really enjoyed it on tap at the same establishment. The draught is a different beer from bottled versions, with lots of fruit, biscuit, and grassiness on the nose and palate. A good stab at an English pale ale. I'm glad your pints went down easy! Sorry I couldn't make it.

The beer is now showing up on the LCBO website ($3.25 a bottle), but its not in stock anywhere: http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/lcbo/product/details.do?language=EN&itemNumber=157651 Not sure if the listing is a sign of hope, since the Martson's was listed but never came in. But we can still hope......

This came up in a BA thread a couple months ago, and I thought most of the responses were pretty helpful: http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/2499358#2503273 I will be faced with this challenge tonight. After the Leafs/Bruins game, my buddy and I are going to Volo. He is a self-professed "lager ...

Re: Bushwhistle

At one of the fine establishments, we were met by a local who introduced us to a completely new beer. A beer that has has been so underground, that even people in the industry had no idea it existed. In fact, I submit that even the people who brew it, have no idea it exists. Imagine the servers con...

Awesome beer. Here's my review on BA: look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | drink: 4.5 | overall: 4.05 (A-) "Pours a hazy burnt orange with amber hues, two fingers of white head, and drapes of lacing down the nonic. Gorgeous looking beer. Smell is floral, citrus hops, peaches, and bread...

2 beers per night on weekdays, 3-4 pints every Friday and Saturday. Not a day drinker as it makes me sleepy and I often get a headache. Also, I pay very little attention to ABV, since most of what I like doesn't meet the 5% 'standard drink' criteria. Occasionally I limit myself to one per night. And...
