Re: Bar Volo - new(ish) food menu

I guess it's too long ago now for a lot of people on this board to remember, but once upon a time Volo had really good food and a pretty extensive menu (good wine menu too!). At some point there was a conscious decision to really focus on the beer side and slim down the food options so as to avoid ...

Re: Build Bigger LCBO Stores

Most bottles don't need 9 inches of clearance above them either. The LCBO do a terrible job of shelving beer. To say nothing of merchandising! There's a lot of existing stores that are massive (see: Brampton, Woodbridge, etc) but they do little with room they have. Walk into almost any LCBO and tak...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I always wonder where the push to use 650+ comes from - I just don't find them to be a logical format (esp. for your more standard offerings). Is it a profitability thing? Marketing? Encouraged by the LCBO? Definitely encouraged by the LCBO. When they put out for seasonal listings, they quite often...

Wonder if they will ever bring them back.
Almost certainly not. They say it's "on hiatus for now" but the person who initiated the project is no longer with the LCBO and they apparently didn't do as well as they hoped.

Re: Summerhill Growler/Craft Beer Destination Store

Yeah, my fear is that the LCBO will use the "beer in grocery stores" as an excuse to diminish it's beer line up even before the first bottle hits the shelves in the grocery stores ... You're right. Beer in grocery stores *WAS* cited in the presentation as an excuse to tighten up the beer ...

Re: Build Bigger LCBO Stores

I think that part of the selection process could be managed by changing the selection of inventory from being under the purview of the local store manager to a centralized planning office that would be able to better manage inventory across the entire chain. In fact, that is more or less the way it...

Summerhill Growler/Craft Beer Destination Store

The LCBO revealed some information at the annual trade day last week regarding growlers as well as other plans for craft beer in the province. I've highlighted some of the more noteworthy points below... The Board has bought out the Timothy's shop attached to the Summerhill store and will be convert...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Has anyone seen the new Orval release? Drinkvine shows none in Toronto, but I thought I heard there was a new crop of bottles out? The only store I remember seeing them at was Brock and Kingston Rd. in Pickering (which, by the way, is probably the best store in the GTA for craft beer selection, esp...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Yeah, I love much of what Rogue does, but their crazy flavors just don't do it for me. It's the kind of thing that I'd love a 2-3 oz taste of...but definitely not a bottle. The really sad thing here is that in the minds of LCBO buyers *this* is what craft beer is all about. It's just like how they'...

But that doesn't neatly fit in with the narrative/myth that most Ontario brewers are "as good, maybe better" than the best breweries in the world! :x True story: when asked why VQA wines were so expensive, one local winemaker said that because Niagara is on about the same longitude as Bor...
