Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Went to Summerhill hoping to find some Saison Dupont, but was surprised to see a bunch of Bons Voeux instead. Same batch as before, but not sure if it's a new shipment, or whether they're still pulling cases out of the warehouse. Odd for Summerhill to give shelf space in the cold room to a delisted ...

Re: LCBO Winter Craft Beer Release 2016

the first thing i noticed is the bottle is the same one used by Westvleteren. The last time I had a Cuvee des Jacobins I happened to notice some embossed lettering on the empty bottle. I take a closer look: Trappistenbier (or something like that). I looked at another one--from the same batch, proba...

Reality can be stranger than fiction.

Behold the no-April-Fooling Girardin cubitainer (aka bag-in-a-box).

I agree with all of that. I remember seeing Ferran Adria pass around a substance that some found very bitter, while others tasted nothing. But here we're talking about perceived flavour changes over time; atomeyes sees degredation in as little as a year, I haven't seen any over 10 years. Not sure wh...

tartness fades slightly. gets less complex. muted. fresh, it has more of a soya sauce flavour to it and a hint of acetic acid. I know taste is personal and subjective, but I've never, ever understood the soya sauce references. I still have a bunch of bottles from the several cases that I bought the...

it's funny. had a bottle of the Grand Cru last night. was really unimpressed. and they do get worse with age. so just a heads up to those who are buying a case. i'm pretty certain these bad boys do not have active yeast. they're likely best consumed within a year of bottling. Completely disagree. S...

Can't wait to see who decides to buy some shares. (Actually, I can think of a few who'll probably jump at the chance.)

Can I suggest a new beer for any brewery looking to celebrate their new BS ownership? How about a specially brewed doppelbock? Collaborator has a nice ring to it.

Personally, I don't mind the idea of a staggered release. It's certainly easier on the wallet & cellar space to have the beers come out in smaller batches over the course of 2-3 months. I've been thinking for a while now that the seasonal release concept has run its course and should be replace...

Oh dear! I neglected to mention the saison DuPont, specifically in the tiny bottles with the butterfly on the label...circa 2006? Oh, man...yeah...If I remember correctly, were they, like, 250ml? What do you guys like about the 250ml bottles? The smaller format? The cute label? I have had a lot of ...

Sorry for a slight thread jack, but I just found a Rodenbach Grand Cru, Best Before 30-06-06, in the back of the vintage keeper. Anyone know what I should expect from this? What is the likely brewed-on date? 2004 or 5? You found one? I still have almost a full case. ($2.20 a bottle or some c...

That's easy: Schultheiss Berliner Weisse. Almost never exported--and hard to find even in Berlin, apparently--it somehow showed up at the LCBO around 15 years ago. Still one of the best, most memorable beers I've ever had, a 5/5. The classic Berliner Weisse. RIP.

the warnings are likely more to do with it being a hoppy american pale ale than due to the brett content - APAs/IPAs are not suited for aging and best fresh. Probably just trying to keep folks from going with brett == ageable. That's my guess, too. Curious to see how it develops, though, as my thou...

Your biggest concern is usually bottle type. regular longnecks and bombers don't hold much pressure. german 500's are usually in the middle. belgian 750/375 are usually akin to champagne bottles and can hold a lot of pressure. Bellwoods' bottles certainly don't seem that sturdy. I'd be interested t...

Sam Adams Triple Bock, with the same abv, showed up at the LCBO 20 years ago, and a few other beers have come close, so we're not exactly treading new ground here.
