Re: Black Oak Sold
I am pretty surprised by this on several levels. I am surprised to see Black Oak sell (but also not - Ken has been working hard for a long time!) but also kind of surprised Silversmith is in a position to be buying. Given the other sales and partnerships we have seen lately, this would on the surfac...

Re: Breweries Selling outside beers
I've noticed the food thing has been enforced at some breweries, others never bothered. I'm guessing everyone's just playing fast and loose with the rules these days because they're mostly b.s. anyway. I had a couple of orders where I paid for chips and didn't get them. It's like a $1 so who cares,...

That seems way smaller and more relaxed than I expected. Did it get busier than that?

Re: Vancouver Updates
nothing I had particularly blew me away, at least in the sense that our second tier stuff would be top tier over there. Certainly lots of great spots, but we really are spoiled in Ontario, which I'd say rivals almost anywhere in North America for quality of beer. This was my impression a few years ...

They specifically tweeted that they will not be accepting old tokens if anyone didn't see. Probably wise given the number that are still out there!

Re: Burlington Brewery
Quite a few years ago, I met a rep for Black Oak in an LCBO. This was shortly after they had moved from Oakville to Etobicoke. The rep told me that the owner moved to be closer to their market, and said something about not getting a lot of support from Oakville restaurants. I wasn't too sure at the...

Re: Is cask beer still a thing?
I'd say the number of people that enjoy a good cask when they come across it is higher than the number that would actively seek it out. I enjoy cask beer but Cask Days was more about finding new and interesting beers than the fact that they were on cask. I'd say the places still doing cask in Toront...

Re: Great Lakes Brewpub (Queen's Quay / Jarvis)
All bars, breweries & restaurants should post basic details such as hours and location prominently on their home page, and keep it up to date. It's maddening how this info is buried on sites, if present at all. As someone actively chasing newly opened breweries you'd be surprised how often it's...

I was pretty disappointed with AMF overall, but the DIPA was pretty solid.

Re: ISO: Ontario Brewery Ticks
Mudtown Station btw I highly recommend making the trip up to Owen Sound to check this place out. Beautiful/cool location and the food was excellent. Beers were pretty good too. Still Fields in Meaford isn't far from there either. Hoping to do so soon! Several cideries I haven't been to between Meaf...

I'm still interested in Whiskeyjack if you can grab some! Cheers! I have managed to get it down to 10 Breweries remaining. Hoping to get to some of the closer ones at some point but those northern ones are tough! I got as far as planning a trip to Thunder Bay and realized I likely need more days tha...

Re: Amsterdam Brewery
Not super surprising, Steamwhistle and Amsterdam were always the most obvious potential acquisition targets just by virtue of size. It will be interesting to see how that rolls out in terms of ratio of Amsterdam products vs. Unibrew products produced down the road. Hopefully this is a good thing for...

Re: Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?
It's definitely a challenge to compare changes to a beer / recipe drift vs. changes to our tastes and palates. Tankhouse, I suspect, is a case of both. I think it's got less hoppy bite but the frame of reference (e.g. other beers that are available, personal tastes) have changed even more over the s...
