Re: Nickel Brook - Kentucky Bastard Review
Haven't looked closely at their products lately but the KB & winey bastard I bought (2015) had a tag hung on the neck with a diagram and instructions. I thought they also started printing a little blurb on the back label now. Anyway, sarcasm aside ... sliding into internet mansplaining mode ... ...

Re: Uncorked-Wine and Spirits Appreciation
Buffalo Trace, at just over $40, is a solid value in an everyday bourbon. Knob Creek Single Barrel (provided you get a good barrel!), is a bargain at $58. Any other bourbon ‘steals’ at the lcbo in your opinions? Four Roses Small Batch ($41) Four Roses Single Barrel ($48) Elijah Craig at $48 may be ...

Re: Pilsner Urquell canned two days ago?
Hoping someone can explain how this is possible. ...then I noticed one in the back had a production date of 01 30 18" and expiry of 09 30 18. Is it even possible that this was actually canned 2 days ago in Czech then on the shelves here? Looking for a little knowledge on the brewery. I don't k...

Re: Who needs Pinot Noir to make a stew
Abbaye de Rocs is listed now. At $6.15 for a 750ml... At that price I will pick some more up, but 330 mL is a better serving size. ...Large bottles of bottle-conditioned BSAs may have a longer cycle of cellar development. And at that price a bottle I can still justify opening one any time, if it is...

Re: LCBO Winter Release 2017
Abbaye de Rocs is listed now. At $6.15 for a 750ml bottle of 9% imported Belgian beer, rated 100 on ratebeer, has to be one of the best lcbo values of all time The LCBO prices on Belgian beer are insane. another one listed yesterday: 9 bucks for Abbaye du val dieu grand cru I'm starting to question...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Surprised about the reaction to the Modern Times pale ale. I tried that and the gose last night and was absolutely in love with both. Yeah, based on the recent comments I was expecting the worst but decided to buy one each of the stout and pale w ale anyway. Though the ale is 3 months old IMO, it s...

Re: Pilsner Urquell canned two days ago?
I've only ever seen the expiry date. Are both dates on the packaging, or are you calculating back the 01 30 18 based on the expiry? From what I've read*, In this case 09 30 18 would imply a 12 30 17 packaging date (add 3 to the months, subtract one from the year - i.e. 9 month shelf life) *I'm no ex...

Re: General LCBO Debate & Discussion Thread
Boned on the Pappy sweepstakes again. Sigh. you should be happy ... pappy ain't what it used to be $480 is alot of money for liquefied wood (which is what 23 year old straight Bourbon tastes like) ...and I bet you'd enjoy 10 bottles of (overpriced) Bellwoods Skeleton Key's* more than a single bottl...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
Hafis was Dead at 12:15. I’m guessing the SK variants last a bit I'm guessing the $17 price tag had something to do with it. That certainly was for me to stay away. BOYD was $14 and even that was too much for me. I tried a few of Bellwoods stuff and although I thought they were decent, I deemed the...

Re: Stalwart Brewing beer removed by LCBO after one day on sale
I could understand if this was pulled from grocery store distribution*, but from stores that sell nothing but liquor? (*argument could be made that someone might believe it could have medicinal properties when the pharmacy next to the beer aisle has bottles with similar logos - the rx/snake t...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing
So any thoughts on the Kentucky and Cuvee this year? Just one irrelevant opinion here: - I like the direction they took on the bottle size (even better would have been the Founders 355ml option), but - When a startup brewery (Rouge River) can sell a barrel aged RIS for $1 less than an established o...

2017 St-Ambroise Stout Impériale Russe (Bourbon Oak aged RIS) This is a good Impy, the hops are still a bit grassy and the wood is lightly astringent. The most recent St. Amby RIS I opened before this was 7.5 years old and ageing into a real beauty. It can therefore use time to integrate. Worth hid...
