Re: Sexism in beer labels in Ontario

Hoo boy. A lot more to unpack in this thread over the last day or so. Let me try to throw some perspective in here. Wait till the end, I'll get there..... Potentially sexist marketing on beer cans is not the most important societal issue of our times. You wont find me protesting in front of Nickel B...

Re: Sexism in beer labels in Ontario

Just because I think that a can is misogenistic, doesn't necessarily mean it is. Same goes for others who share my opinion. Just because you can't possibly fathom why a can is offensive and has wider societal impocations, doesn't mean it doesn't. Same goes for others who share your opinion. Much lik...

Re: Sexism in beer labels in Ontario

I think Atomeyes assessment of the context surrounding the NB cans is pretty balanced and even. Can't really add much more to it. Well done on a hangover. Ha. CoolB: I'm not calling you out personally. You are entitled to your own opinion. We obviously disagree. That's fine. I'm not trying to stiffl...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Discussing how misogyny is subtly ingrained in all aspects of society is an important conversation to have. People don't have to agree. They don't even have a responsibility to have those conversations if they don't want to. But if anyone wants to actually have that conversation, can we do it withou...

Re: Merit Brewing

I was at their soft opening on Friday and I was very impressed. The Beer: They'll have 10 taps of their own stuff on at most times and one guest tap. All the beers of theirs I tried vere good, to very good, to excellent. Yeah, 2-3 of them right now are farmhouse-esque, but they are all radically dif...

Oud Beersel! Bought a case a long time ago that I've been very slowly rationing. Happy to re-sock.

Re: FT: Founders KBS; ISO: Trillium, Treehouse

Never hurts to put the feelers out. It's a hard sell to Ontario folks, though, based on KBS being a shelfie. Maybe try posting to the Beer Trade Canada ISO:FT group on Facebook. You might not get exactly what you are looking for, but you could definitely get some decent out of province/other US stuf...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I surprisingly still have my notes from that tasting, which included Hellwoods, Tempest, Russian Gun, Welly and Bolshevik Bastard.....a lot fewer local options, back in 2013. Pooling results from 4 people had Tempest on top, followed by Welly, then Hellwoods and Russian Gun, with Bolshevik way in th...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Some are no doubt being pulled immediately for restaurants. Some stores have stock that immediately dissapears because it isn't making it onto the shelf and is being kept in the back. It's smart to just ask your local what their deal is.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Hellwoods - 2016 and 2017 vintages. A buddy of mine heard that Bellwoods tweaked their recipe this year and picked up some fresh bottles recently. I still have a couple kicking around from last year so we decided to do a side-by-side. They are indeed different and to a degree that does support a re...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Great overview of what's happening in London. Thanks! It's been a few years since I've explored London's beer scene, despite being so close. Work might bring me that way this summer, so will be keeping an eye out for Beerlabs opening.

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Yep, agree that everything in this thread is pretty fair. Consumers can and should decide what and whom to support based on their own interests and ideological alignment. If NB thinks refugees are a worthy cause, others will either agree or disagree and purchase or not purchase accordingly. I guess ...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Some people make charitable donations towards helping people, some for helping animals. Some go towards the local comminity, some more global. Etc., etc. How people decide to donate is up to them. Trying to standardize or prioritize value in charitable donations (if that is what you're insinuating. ...

Re: Merit Brewing

A few more details, especially stylistically, here.... https://bensbeerblog.com/2017/02/22/4104/ Really excited for this. Collective Arts is great for take away, but it'll be nice to finally have a few (hopefully) good brewpubs to sit down at in Hamilton. With Merit, that makes 4 new brewpubs that a...
