Re: Bellwoods Brewery

Both Brux and The Brain have Bellwoods bottles pretty regularly in Hamilton. Draught, not so much.

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

Ahhhh. Right. Didn't check out the locale and didn't put two-and-two together, but that makes sense. Too bad, was super excited for a sec there (but good for both Bellwoods and Trillium).

Bellwoods / Trillium Brewing teasing us with this tweet showing 2016 Skeleton Key and what appears to be Barn Owl #3. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CaAxaIcUkAAwF3Q.jpg:large I say Barn Owl #3 because the label colour is a bit lighter than the red of Barn Owl 1 (more like a peach colour, which makes s...

Re: BCBS 2015

Standing in line for Motley, Doubtle Tempest, Zwanze, Cask Days and hearing the convos around me, more people than you think probably know what BCBS is.

I think the Friday morning release was a tough sell for the reasons already stated.

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

I can't wait to do a side by side review of both Bolshevik Bastard and Kentucky Bastard, two of my favourite stouts. I only wish I had held onto a final bottle of Winey Bastard from earlier this year. I tried Winey recently.....it was a bottle from two years ago. It was a bit sour. Is this how it n...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Still a few sixers of DDH NN left at the brewery but, sadly, DDH Headstock is all gone. Apparently the DDH versions were done primarily for export to the US market.....best first impressions and all, with only a small amount of each available at the brewery. Hopefully they make a splash and those ve...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Make sure he grabs you bottles. I believe the DDH Headstock is only in bottles and growler fill, while the DDH Naughty Neighbor is only in bottles, as far as I was told.

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

The DDH Naughty is very good. The DDH Headstock is ridiculous. Even if not for the dry hopping, this batch of Headstock has the malt dialed way, way back and would have been an excellent batch on its own. Easily the best it's tasted since early summer/late spring and the dry hopping is icing on the ...

Re: Buffalo NY - what to see and explore?

There is absolutely a crazy amount of great new beer down in Buffalo right now.....Almanac Farmer's Reserve, Grimm, Crooked Stave, Anchorage, new Mikkeller's, Alpine etc. etc. If anyone hasn't travelled the extra 25 min into Aurora to go to Aurora Brew Works, it's more than worth it. New and rare bo...

Re: Best non-Toronto, non-LCBO breweries?

Yeah, a little dicey outside of Toronto. I'd agree with Black Swan and Block 3 being mostly above average. I'd add Forest City and Sleeping Giant (when I can get it, which isn't too often). With all of them, there is the caveat that there are some definite misses there too.

Re: Random Reviews

but getting back to the original post: i'd never describe Urquel as having complex sweetness. nothing complex about the grist whatsoever. and it isn't bone dry like a saison, but i'd never use the term "sweet" to describe that or any blonde-coloured pilsner. bread ain't complex. :) I kind...

Re: Zwanze Day 2015

Good event with the Volo staff admirably handling those first crazy few hours very well. I can'tsay I tried many of the Ontario offerings, sticking to a few (holy pricey!) Cantillon pours, JK bottles, the HF/GR taps and thr Quebec offerings. Didn't try the offending beer, but heard about how bad it ...
