Re: What're you drinking right now?

GLB Apocalypse Later Imperial Black IPA Probably the most unique of any black IPA I've had. Stronger on the "black" side than others I've had. Nice hop aroma and flavour. yeah, I'm really enjoying the batch this year... thick, delicious and a bit hard to place what style it is exactly. it...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

A strong hop presence would have made this beer so much more complex. Maybe so, but regular Molson drinkers* would probably be disgusted by the bitterness that would result from that complexity. My guess is most line extensions are aimed at regular drinkers of a brand's main offerings, looking for ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I have had two bottles of the Aug 28th batch of Aphrodite, and it is quite thin and oxidized. It is still an interesting stout, but it lacks the body and vanilla/cocoa of fresher batches. Still, it's not like there are any stouts of equal quality at the LCBO... *By the way, does anybody else notice...

Re: New non-LCBO/TBS beer releases

the fat tug was quite nice. somewhat Stone-y in character... but, better.
and, yeah, the metallic/pearlescent custom die cut label makes you feel like you're getting a real deal for your $6!

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I'd say ransack and headstock are quite comparable with slight differences... and, both brilliant!

Re: Great Lakes

I had three life sentences at the monarch the other night... wow, it's a good one! The friend I was with has a bit of a hop allergy (we think, possibly something else in ales/ipas) so he sticks to lighter filtered lagers etc... anyhow, just the smell from my life sentence wafting down the bar got hi...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Lake Effect cans now listed under #445577, no stock showing... FYI I picked up a few cans yesterday at the Gammage St. store here in London... apparently they received them over a week ago but were unable to get them out onto the floor until a product listing was created which was apparently done y...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

had a couple finest kind last night: it was ok, nothing to get crazy about... different flavour profile than anything brewed locally which is always interesting. I'm wondering if it's starting to age a bit though? the bottles I had tasted a bit "grapey" though not quite "raisiny"...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

had an evening at barhop (classic) on the weekend: Thrust - delicious, great batch. 11.05 saison - less than half interesting/more than half terrible, almost like a pint of sangria. Maniacal Hopshop - super, maybe getting a little old though? I find GLB IPA's have an extremely short shelf life and l...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I was going to hold my tongue on this one but it (my tongue) was insulted by the double polaris! I thought it was a disaster. It tasted like a IIPA I'd expect from an "ok" homebrewer or one of the smaller/newer breweries that are popping up in every little town in Ontario (no good). I wish...

Re: Nickel Brook Brewing

Not sure if I missed this, but does anyone have the pricing on the 11/05? I'm not sure about the pricing... but, last year only sawdust had the legal rights to sell the 11.05 collaboration out of their shop... because, Ontario. Also, I'm currently drinking/enjoying/rejoicing the first good headstoc...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I just cannot see how they justify their prices though, as they don't even go through a middle man. Can you imagine the cost of their beers if they were in the LCBO?! The way alcohol pricing works in Ontario, iirc, price at the brewery must be the SAME as if it sold at LCBO. The term "middle m...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

GLB, sawdust and nickelbrook (unfortunately, not recently for nickelbrook though) are all far better imo.
I just don't get the fanboyism for bellwoods. I love that they put out a tonne of different beers... but, it all tastes a little amateur to me.

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I had a bottle of the 3 minutes to midnight last night. Good, but surprisingly light and uncomplicated for a 10% imperial. So, ultimately, tasty for sure... but, it's definitely not a $12 bottle of beer. I'd much rather have a GLB cherry hoarder for half the price. I'm done taking a chance on their ...
