In the past Greg posted the details from the LCBO on submissions for consideration for the seasonal releases. There was usually a line in these saying they were looking for products in a specific price range. I seem to recall reading that $3 and under was the target often mentioned. I wonder if with...

This will be unpopular, but .... I'm drinking my first Founders and I don't find it to be that great. I mean I like it, it is good, but it is a bit thin and astringent for me. I think (though I'm not trying them side by side) that I prefer Boneshaker and Headstock and the more resiny varieties, and...

That is quite amazing, really. Never would have guessed. Anyone know if the one in Pembroke is for real? I spend some time in that area in the summer. The one in Pembroke seems a bit iffy to me. Their blog posts have months or even years between them. If they started in 2009 and still aren't up and...

6th Street Bar & Grille

This used to be the Shamrock and Thistle but has changed names ( and decor ). We went tonight for the first time. I am not sure the exact address but it is right at the end of Burnhamthorpe where it meets Dundas. My wife had a double bacon burger ( bacon on the burger and bacon pieces in the patty i...

I didn't see any Hop Circle when I was at Crossroads or for sure I'd have picked some up. I did get a Bridge Burner and some of the fresh Headstock too. I also got a sixer of Smashbomb. The cashier said she had tried it recently at a tasting. She said it was just like Guiness! A bit sweet and a bit ...

I tasted the Spearhead Belgian Stout a few weeks ago at the Victory. I picked up some flavours that I assumed to come from the Belgian yeast. I am not a fan of Belgian styles and find the flavours from those yeasts quite distinctive. I enjoyed a couple pints of Barley Days Workingman Stout that even...

I had a Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale around New Years and learned after that it was from 2011. I was pleasantly surprised at just how well it held up. It had spent the entire year in a fridge. The pumpkin itself was a bit faded but the spices were not.

Thanks again for the tips. Sadly I arrived too late to have a beer before the show but we had a great time none the less. What a fantastic performance!

Had a couple pints of Barley Days Working Man's Stout from the cask at the Victory Cafe. Absolutely fantastic!

Tried a sample of Spearhead's Belgian Stout after the first pint but much preferred the Barley Days and ordered another.

I made it to the Rhino last night for the first time. Had a fantastic pint of cask Smashbomb. It was so good I picked up six more bottles on my way home.

Thanks for the suggestions. There are certainly plenty of places where I wouldn't dream of taking my daughter but there are a few places that I will trend towards because I know it is an environment I am comfortable having her in. I wouldn't take her to Volo, too crowded and it is a specialized atmo...

U brews aren't allowed in Alberta either. I just assumed that it was an old law that would get fixed eventually. It is disturbing to see more places going backwards rather than moving forwards!

Hey Hamilton 'Towlers, I am going to be seeing The Who at Copps in February, and will be chaperoning my 15 year old nephew. Are there any good beer bars within walking distance to Copps that would be OK to take a minor too before the show? Really, I gotta question why they selected me as the chapero...

@ the Judge w/ Streets Fuller's ESB (cask) Niagara College RIS Pretty damn good compared to the last couple visits to that bar. NC RIS is still easily the #2 Ontario stout for me, after Hellwoods. I've heard the majority of the batch is being aged in barrels, which I think is a damn shame. I'm with...
