Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). A few more places

A few more places from recent visits to LV: 1. Aces & Ales has a second location in the northwest. It's really far (like, $50 cab ride far) but arguably worth a trip if you have a DD. 50 craft taps, lots of variety, and about 200+ bottles including some rarities. Oh, and it's open 24 hours a day...

Re: Toronto: "Craft Beer Capital of the World"?

This Prairie boy will never understand the Ontario obsession with navel-gazing. That being said, if the city is indeed serious about this... where would you start? I can think of two touch points that every visitor sees first: 1. Pearson does a horrible job in general of promoting local attractions,...

Re: Vancouver Updates

Did a quick pass through Vancouver last week. Alibi Room: Cool atmosphere, excellent tap list of 40-50 beers (and like the fact they indicate which kegs are 'on deck'). Foodwise the menu is small, but very well done. A few quirks as others have mentioned -- it's a tad isolated from the rest of Gasto...

Just got back from a short stop in CGY. Craft Beer Market (mentioned in the Globe article) has about 100 on their tap list , but I had the same problem I do at TO places like West 50 -- by trying to cover everything, you end up with a lot of duplicated middle-of-the-road stuff. Far more interesting...

Asheville Trip Notes

Some quick notes from a trip this fall. Downtown is very walkable and vibrant (tons of great restaurants and interesting shops). Outside of downtown, the outlying areas are quite spread out -- you will need a car and DD to visit the breweries out here (Pisgah, Catabwa, Highland, etc...). There's als...

Palm Springs / Palm Desert + area

A few quick notes from a trip this month: 1. Coachella Valley Brewing (Thousand Palms) Brewery just opened this year. Currently the only one in the valley. Pretty nice tasting room at the brewery. They had about 8-10 of their beers on tap. Did two tasting flights, all the beers were solid. Good vari...

... in the former Twisted Kilt / Bow & Arrow location.

Had a brief stopover on the way home the other day. Two most noticeable (and welcomed) changes: hardwood instead of carpet and a washroom reno.

Tap selection seems to have improved as well.

The Beer Revolutions in Calgary and Edmonton have digital real time boards throughout the pubs, and are linked to their website. It really is better out west. Yup, and they also include keg size and date tapped. So I know to keep ordering that special Baird import before the 10L minikeg blows. :-)
