I have to say.. if anything happened to Upper Canada brands after Sleeman took over it was only watering down. I distinctly remember the outstanding taste of Upper Canada Lager and Rebellion Lager 7-8 years ago. The ones you can find in stores right now have nothing in common with the old versions....

(the LCBO felt that they might be liable for giving refunds so they held up label approval for almost two months) Orval has been postponed to the Winter release in late November. Ah yes, our tax dollars working against us! I've never expected LCBO bottle refunds!? Has anyone? I very much look forwa...

I knew this John Sleeman guy was up to no good! Just kidding. Cautiously optimistic, but kidding. The New Boss of Unibroue could, really screw up what is one of Canada's premiere cultural phenomena if he "waters down" their production philosophy to bottom-line standards. Hopefully h...

Nugent, It wouldn't be a battle of wits as your half barely counts..."afford it", I could buy and sell you several times a day with the spare change in my pocket...if we meet at smokeless it won't be to drink beer but rather to battle to the death...my brother's retarded so I don't take k...

As the old German saying goes "There is no BAD beer, only good beer and Better beer." If you'd ever had the misfortune of trying a beer from the Steelback Brewery, you might disagree with this saying. :) Well, granted the saying is of ***German*** origin - put it in national context and i...

Thanks for posting the article! Memories. I think I've always looked for better beers to try - when Algonquin Country Lager use to be made, I thought I was drinking some crazy magic potion. 10 years before Pilsner Urquell became a big billboard beer, I believed I had found in it my own personal Mecc...

What was their Belgian ale selection like before? From Belgium it wasn't uncommon to see special releases and gift packs include beers like Rochefort, Orval, Binchoise, St. Bernardus, Silly, Achouffe, Rodenbach Alexander, Boon, Dubuisson, Van Eecke, Dupont, Liefmans.... Maredsous, Westmalle... I wo...

Hurts the beer snob in me. More of a joke than an article. Too bad.

We're hoping that we will be able to offer all of their brews, however, that will depend upon the outcome of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency ruling on the Kriek...if that goes against us then we'll never see Cantillon in Ontario again. Wow. Ontarians pay taxes for this? You don't hear about gen...

Interesting.

Unibroue is a brewer proud to use only organically grown ingredients.

I wonder how this jibes with Sleeman's use of Genetically Modified (GMO) ingredients in their products. I hope they are always run like two companies, which sounds like John's prospective plan.

Allow myself to introduce... myself

Just want to say Hi since I'm a new face here. Interesting site.

My handle is "Belgian" not because I am, or have even been to Belgium yet, but Belgian beer's a major reason I'm visiting. It is elusive.

Hope we can be good neighbors. I raise my glass in salutation.
