Funny you should say that - is Corona really all malt? I've always secretly preferred Corona over Canadian or Export or Blue, etc. (if those are the only choices available at some unfortunate event), but I've also always wondered if I was just falling victim to the advertising, the packaging, the li...

Thanks to Cass, the Bow and the Headstrong reps from me as well and nice to meet those that I did, even though I had to leave early. A curious thing happened at the beginning of the tasting. Did anyone else have an initial sample that was not at all like those that followed? I was sitting at the end...

The dry hopped Best Bitter is dispensed, if I recall, under nitrogen. Generally I am not a fan of this but it seemed to work OK at Pepperwood (i.e. not detract unduly from the hop flavour). I'd prefer the beer cask-conditioned (they used to have a beer engine, if memory serves) but this seemed to be...

Wellington Iron Duke Strong Ale
Felt like something new or new-ish tonight and, intrigued by old faithful's comments, I set out to the LCBO at Wilson and Dufferin for some Trafalgar Portside Amber. Of course, they didn't have it. My fault for not checking the web site first. Anyway, I picked up six Iron Duke, mindful of the advice...

I finally made it to the Bow for my first pint of Macleans in some time, in a state of high anticipation given old faithful's review above. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. The beer seemed very tannic and green to me, with the hops overwhelming and drowning out any complexity I was hoping fo...

I have always been interested in the history of Guinness in Ireland and am intrigued by the comment that Guinness was blended, in the pub, up to the 1950s. Does anyone know more about this or have a reference for some objective Guinness history? When did it go to the ubiquitous nitrogen dispense (wh...
