Re: France 2023 Beer Notes

The forum software strips out image metadata when it resizes the pictures for previews or thumbnails, which strips them of their orientation. There's nothing we can do about it short of installing a sketchy plugin to handle images differently.

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I had a couple of the lake effects this week. They're stellar! Reminded me why I fell in love with that beer in the first place.

Hazelnut beers

I first ran into a stout with hazelnut added when one won at FoBAB the one year I went which was ages ago now. There were a lot of them there, and it really felt like the hot new emerging trend. For whatever reason, that tend never emerged in Canada at all. There's a chocolate hazelnut stout from Wh...

Re: Top 5 B.S.

Great Lakes Lager. A case of 24 for $50 is hard to beat, it’s good cold, and fits the lawnmower beer requirement. For non-Ontario, it’s Jever for me - delicious Pilsner that’s relatively cheap. Jever is my go to, almost always in my fridge. I just went with DAB over Jever due to accessibility: I ca...

Re: Betty's on King St is Closing

I just hope that the big corporate places draw more interest to good beer in general, because people will go there just because of location and size and whatnot. If they convert more people, that can drive more business to other places too. Both models seem to coexist fine in lots of places so I thi...

Re: Top 5 B.S.

Oh, I guess that's me. Buuuuut.....I also drink dab for all the same reasons. It's pretty much the only thing I drink that fits this thread.

Pilsner Elora and Side launch Northbound are the only other things that come close.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Oh, I love that too! We used to get LTM beers fairly regularly, but I can't recall the last time I saw one.

It holds up great over time too, I'll get a few of these!

Re: Do you ask for a ‘pint’ anymore?

Maybe it’s just me, but I no longer ask for ‘a pint of’ beer when I speak to bartenders, knowing full well that actual pints (for the most part) aren’t served anymore. Maybe I’m becoming a weird beer crank. Who still asks for a ‘pint’? Or do you use ‘pint’ as shorthand, which is usually how I hear ...

Re: Betty's on King St is Closing

There are a couple of examples of places managing to open in condos. The Aviary and Longslice are maybe the only examples I can think of, and I wouldn't exactly call those places cozy either. It's hard to make a giant glass and concrete cube cozy.

Re: Betty's on King St is Closing

Oh hey neat, Betty's opened a second location where the Ceili used to be. That area used to be home for me, but I'm totally out of touch now.

Sad to see the original go, that was a fun place. Kinda a sensible spot for condos, I guess.

Online pic and listing says "online exclusive" but it's not available online and is in 20 stores. Okay, thanks LCBO.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I definitely saw the Export Lager in the LCBO last summer, but maybe that was just because I'm pretty local to the brewery.

Re: Elora Brewing Company (n. of Guelph)

Elora is a solid brewery, I've generally been impressed with what I've had. As far as Landbiers, I've had precisely one actual German landbier from Privatbrauerei Einsiedler. It was filtered and definitely more commercial, but right as you described between a kellerbier and dunkel with regards to m...

Re: Elora Brewing Company (n. of Guelph)

These guys have become one of my semi-regular places to order from since I moved to Guelph. Free shipping and all that. I'm particularly fond of their Lagers, particularly the Pilsner Elora, which is also attractively priced at 3.14 for a tall boy. Every fall they put out some dark lagers too, whic...
