Had the Fullers Honey Dew last night after building a backyard deck and felt that the honey made the beer taste un-refreshing as I didn't taste much of the hops in the finish. A litte too sweet for my taste, but I will try again in different circumstances, perhaps with or after a dessert.

[But seriously, Michelle's Beach House is pretty good, La Palette (never been, but have heard good things), there most be more. What about the Fat Belgian? Neither Michelle's Beach House or La Palette come even close to being as good a beer destination as Volo though regardless of how good their fo...

I must chime in and add my vote to the "love the food at Volo" camp, especially all of their pastas. I'd be really interested in hearing what places in Toronto have great beer and better food then Volo. BeerBistro's food is great and....that's pretty much it. I take it you mean BeerBistro...

The tone from the article suggests it was written by someone with a "youthful" outlook, perhaps someone who strictly asssociates beer with yer basic pub food...and Volo ain't no burger and chicken wing pub. Considering the review comes from a free weekly, the writing (and reviews) is often...

Hockely Dark is a great brown ale - nice hints of coffee, nuts, chocolate, but with enough hops to keep it balanced. A good transition beer for those expanding their palates considering how "light" it tastes for a darkish sounding beer. Other local, commercially available brown ales to con...

However, I personally can see no justification as to why the beer costs roughly twice as much per volume in bottled form. I think there's at a $2 deposit built in for the bottle (which, at one time, was refundable at the brewery, not sure anymore). I've enjoyed it both in bottle and can form and wh...

The moment I saw that bottle, I had to buy it. The bbq sauce is pretty good by the way.

Do you think Rod appreciates good beer as well? I suppose as a wine writer, it's hard to acknowledge a fine beer in print, but I would hope so. Once you have the "itch" to explore and appreciate one slice of life, it usually translates across many more.. Good beer....good wine....good food...

Beer (wine) Rut

It's like preaching to the converted, but there's a good wine article in the Ottawa Citizen by Rodd Phillips that has many parallels to the woes often heard here. Just replace the word wine with beer and you'd think someone from this site had written it!

Just had a pint of Tartan Special there on Saturday! Was suprised to see it there, but they do have a decent tap line-up, though lacking in Ontario craft beer!

By the way, I am still VERY much involved with Scotch Irish and I am in Toronto every week. That is VERY good to hear. Look forward to the Black Irish and anything else created on the east side of this province! What's in the water there anyway? I haven't had a corporal in a while, hope that works ...
