My two favourite brewpubs during a visit four or five years ago were Commonwealth Brewing and the Back Bay Brewing Co., though I have a suspicion one or both may now be defunct. Also, Sam Adams has (or had) a dedicated pub with the full range of their beers at 710 Boylston.

Summer ale was cask conditioned at one time, but no longer is (or at least wasn't last summer). Echoing the comments above, I've found I like the Summer Ale less now that it is not cask conditioned.

I once had occasion to enjoy a few drinks in the clubhouse bar at Belvoir Park Golf Club in Belfast. They had the usual frigid keg of Guinness, but also kept a "warm" keg, which they reserved for the true connaisseurs. The difference was quite stark. Also heard a great line that day from o...

Cask-conditioned Maclean's Pale Ale was appearing from time to time at the (lost, lamented) Blue Meaney and I enjoyed it there quite a bit as well. Rob or others, does it appear in cask form anywhere else in the GTA? (Probably at the Woolwich, I would guess?)

They still have some 1845 at Volo, I believe.

But even keg Fullers served through a handpump gets us half-way there. There's no secondary fermentation, true, but at least it's not full of CO2 and probably it's closer to proper cellar temperature.

Pubs with Cask Beer

The demise of the Blue Meaney, plus an article in Ale Street News on cask beer in the Northeast U.S., got me thinking about trying to name the places in the GTA and Golden Horseshoe that have at least one cask-conditioned ale on tap. Here's my unscientific list. Am I forgetting any? I hope so but I ...

I had a pint last night at Volo. I can't say I was as impressed as the others. The inevitable chill and gassiness of keg-served beer really diminishes the enjoyment of subtle beers like this, I think. I'm sure it would be lovely from the cask, but I found it pretty bland served keg-style. Do they bo...

Speaking for myself, the "two beer lists" thing doesn't keep me from going to C'est What any less frequently. I hope they prosper for years to come. But it is an annoyance, and one which they could easily rectify, I would have thought.

Have to agree, as I did in the other thread. It's in a different class entirely from Keith's and other macros, IMO.

Please elaborate. I know I had other cask beers at the Meaney besides Durham, such as Charles McLean Pale Ale on several occasions and the two different "one off" dry hopped Black Oak Brown Ales that Ken did last winter. Admittedly, none were in the past little while. Was this change in po...

Oh that is a shame. A real shame. That's a huge loss, to those of us in north Toronto at least.

Here's their website, though it has not been updated to reflect the fact they now brew beer for commercial sale:

http://home.nas.net/~bitters/

It gives you the location of their facility at least.

Nickel Brook Ale

Has anyone had this yet? It's made in Burlington by Better Bitters Brewing Co., which I gather was (is?) a U-Brew place. A friend from work who lives out there brought me a bottle. Not a bad effort, could use a bit more hop flavour on the finish, I thought. What do those in the Hamilton/Burlington a...
