I like the fact that this proves the good business sense in the following: 1. Offer good beer or great beer 2. Offer decent local food 3. Kill the music and the stupid TVs (I think there's room for live music in some venues, but just to have canned music drown out conversation sucks). I wonder why t...

Craft Beers of the World at Fionn MacCool’s Wow, good timing for this thread. I wonder if this is a first step for mainstream corporate bars? I might have to take back my 's comment. I don't think this means on tap though, which is sad. I prefer draft, and I bet it only means they negotiated...

As a start, I try to never eat or drink in a place that ends in apostrophe s and avoid bands named after cities. There is still plenty more mediocrity out there, but that eliminates a big chunk. I also don't see how boycotting a lousy beer list by ordering something else does any good. If you really...

In my few trips trolling lowland bars, Palm was passable, but basically the local version of Rickards. It's at least better than Heineken or Stella. I did like the fact that bars that offered it would go through the motions of the Belgian beer service with the right glass, and delivery etc. Even if ...

Ironically you can't get a decent beer on any plane these days. For a little while Westjet had Big Rock. At least they supported a hometown brew, but now it's just coors crap. AirFrance was always famous for pushing French wines on their flights, a great way to market to visitors. Years ago, I was o...

[...] If the organisers, like the TBS at the TFOB [...] For the record, the Beer Store were never organisers of the Fort York Festival, they were just the primary sponsors for a number of years. And they had absolutely no involvement this year, reportedly because they were not happy with the number...

wow...that rabbit guy was a real a-hole...DFH60 has so much pent-up demand that I imagine the larger stores will stock up with large quantities up front and that there will be little back-up stock left. We are actively talking with both the LCBO and DFH about scheduling the next order but that cert...

The real distinction in any of these festivals, beer, wine, food or otherwise, is whether they are marketing opportunities for the brewers or revenue generation for the organisers. If it's a chance for brewers to introduce themselves, new products or just reward their customers, prices will be fair....

I found an o.k. place called the Bonaventure Brewery in the Hotel Bonaventure downtown. The food was mid-pack pub fare and the staff was not very well educated on the beers they serve. However, they had a couple good house brews including a reasonable West Coast style IPA. Guest taps included Flat T...

I just spent the week in L.A. enjoying the choices. The best was the North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. You just don't find that kind of goodness around here  Here's another interesting thing I noticed down there. A corner store had sixes of Sierra Nevada on sale at $4.60. The same wall h...

Fantastic log! Thank You! My vintage is from the early 80's (at least legally). I used to travel to Montreal often to visit friends. I remember the most charming taverns being in the east end. I speak barely a word of French, but I always felt welcome with my friends and I suppose I would have been ...
