Re: Sleeman Steam Beer
hadn't tried this since it first came out a few years ago and picked it up the other day when looking for something good for this hot weather. First, from a technical standpoint, this is one of the cleanest beers I have had in a long time and I tip my hat (and this is not meant as a joke) to the Sl...

Our retail price in Ontario for Rogue Half-E-Weizen is $4.95 and we hope to be able to hold that price point for future Rogue offerings. By comparison, the average price of Rogue 650ml bottles in the U.K. today is GBP3.49 a bottle, or about CAD7.45. A quick search of a few U.S. beer outlets shows a...

Although you would figure that they would cross-link the websites, so maybe their pseudo-brewery actually has been shut down. Ahh.. that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up Greg. It is still really odd however, that things went from bringing a top selling beer from Calgary to Ontario, increase...

Also - I think there will always be a market for watery, flavorless beer. You can't help some people appreciate wine with any real character either. Pseudo-wine and pseudo-beer have an appeal with some completely nice, normal intelligent people. Same with chain fast-food and instant frozen dinners ...

I've always maintained that a case of Blue or Canadian pretty much has a $10 advertising surcharge on it. I applaud Lakeport and any other company that is willing to do what they can to bring some sanity to beer prices in this country. The floor prices are still absurd, but that's not the brewers' f...

Now we're getting to the heart of the matter. The LCBO appears to have the opinion that they are providing a reasonable sample of quality imported beer and thus if it doesn't sell there is no market for quality imported beer. NONSENSE! There may not be a market for mid-range stuff, but they don't gr...

Re: Ontario Craft Brewers Assoc.
It seems all of the micro's in Ontario have banned together - but for what reason? Does anyone know who runs this association? Do they combine other brewery functions like purchasing product as one (caps, bottles, labels etc...). The reason can be seen simply in the mega-millions that the Ontario W...

Pootz is that Northern Edelbrau really good? I have never tried it. I tried Northern's Ale a few years ago and thought it was just an average industrial ale, so I've been passing on the other Northern offerings. The package for Edelbrau always seemed kind of bland to me, not that you can always tel...

Re: You know you're in trouble when...
On yet another disappointing marketing note but a positive one for Lakeport, a 3/4 page ad in today's London Free Press has Labatt Genuine Honey claiming '24 for $25' and using the line, 'If you pay less, it's not genuine honey' Immediately under this is a '100% pure Canadian honey' logo. This is t...

I don't see Sleeman as trying to be something it isn't. Its Cream Ale has always tasted the same as today (if anything it is better now than it was 15 years ago). The ads have changed a bit but not the beers. Sleeman has introduced a variety of beer styles. The flavour profile appeals to a lot of p...

That was confirmed by Fuller's. They do not sell cask ale in North America.GregClow wrote:Fron what I've heard, it's a keg, but they use a tap handle that looks like a cask handle.Blankboy wrote:Don't they have the Fullers on cask at Dora's?No UK cask ales here, only local stuff.

the problem with sleeman's marketing
The problem I see with the marketing isn't that they are using macro marketing. It's that they still come off sometimes as attempting to potray themselves as something other than a macrobrewer. Consider the Canadian beer drinker. This person wants to buy a beer and has a lot of choices. Perhaps Blue...
