Re: Beer in Grocery Stores
And in Stittsville! Nothing against Stittsville, but how has this not happened in the middle of Toronto (or London or Mississauga or Hamilton or Ottawa)? All of our grocery store licences seem to have gone to chains who put forward a bland, broadly similar lineup. Maybe Farm Boy holds some promise?

Re: lcboapi.com and drinkvine.com
Okay then! It was just a suggestion. If you can find a plausible free alternative, please let us know. LCBO seems intent on making searching their inventory as difficult as possible. Personally, I found Drinkvine to be invaluable and would have paid a modest amount to keep it alive. Now we have anot...

Re: Side Launch - Mountain Lager discontinued - WTF?
I just don't get the same warm and fuzzies from Muddy York's Helles. I know others here like it though. I'll have to give it a re-try.
Bellwoods also makes a terrific Munich Helles (when available), but it is almost twice the price!

Re: Side Launch - Mountain Lager discontinued - WTF?
Hard to know, but it sounds like the MBA's have taken over and a re-branding campaign is underway: Northbound, Getaway, and other such nonsense replacing the core brands. Just slightly amazing to me that they would discontinue a beer that two of our top beer writers (Ben J., Jordan St. John) called ...

Re: lcboapi.com and drinkvine.com
Thanks. Wasn't aware of the other thread. My sentiments exactly. Precisely the reason we avoided the LCBO site entirely and used the lost and lamented drinkvine. Hopefully Cask Hunter will eventually fill the void. I would certainly pay a modest amount if he decides to go to a subscription-based mod...

Side Launch - Mountain Lager discontinued - WTF?
This is unwelcome news and, IMO, incredibly dumb:

Re: lcboapi.com and drinkvine.com
This is a bit OT, sorry, but were the recent changes made by LCBO to their own site to remove the "search all stores" feature for a specific product? I can't seem to find that any more. Now you have to select one individual store and the site will tell you whether the product is available ...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO
Chain-wide discounts are generally maximum 20%, and usually less, are they not? I feel like individual stores also, very occasionally, do unadvertised deeper discounts on things they really want to get rid of, but there is no way of knowing about these except showing up and getting lucky (or word of...

Re: Nova Scotia
Thanks rejtable. I just got back, as a matter of fact. My overall impression is that there has been an explosion of new craft breweries (not to mention distilleries) in Nova Scotia! Made it to a couple of new places (for me), notably Two Crows, which is putting out quite excellent beer and might be ...

Re: lcboapi.com and drinkvine.com
Derek -- this is great news. Thanks for all the work you've put into it so far. One thing I liked about Drinkvine was that, even though I used it primarily for beer, one could also add the odd whisky or bottle of wine (after an irresistible Belgian review). Any plans to expand beyond beer at any poi...

Re: Muddy York Brewing
Tooth and Nail has a very good one too. Not as easy to come across in the GTA I suppose, but it was on tap somewhere in December -- BeerBistro, perhaps?

Re: Beer in Grocery Stores
Exactly. At the Hoggs Hollow Loblaws (since we seem to be creating a mini-database of local grocery stores here) I can't think of any beer they carry that isn't available at one of the better-than-average LCBO's within a km. or so on Avenue, at Bayview Village, etc. They seem to have lots of shelf s...
