London was the original Canadian plant doing Bud (I was involved) in the late '70's. Remember that it is brewed to "Canadian taste standards" (whatever the hell that means - Gary standards) with corn. As is immediately obvious when you try an American Bud draft, they are two completely dif...

At the 2010 Canadian Brewing Awards, Ted Moroz, the head of TBS, informed that all new renovations will be done as self-serves. This, after the system had just been renovated as Ice Cold Express. So when will the new self serves be instituted? I guess after 30 years when they need to be renovated ag...

Had a couple of pints of House Bitter last night. Very good. I like the A to Z tap system. I may bring some friends and play scrabble. All new drinking games are possible :)

Okay. I'm back on the Gary bandwagon. I have never eaten at a White Castle (despite some neferious photos) but the simplicity appeals to me. It's the only burger joint i know that had bullet proof glass (Tiger Stadium) I hope that the consistantly overnlarge portions in most fast food joints will ev...

I am a big supporter of the nano level of brewing. Beer/ale is a mystical drink and the level of control over the stream of input variables is no stronger than at the nano level. I believe we will all benefit most by breweries that have a business model not dependent on a brand development but rathe...

A big advantage of cans is the relative low cost for a package with 360 degree (up to) 8 colour graphics. Hence, even with economies of scale, brewers like Wellington can put a RIS out for $2.95 (which I think is a lowball price that hurts us all). Assume the big brewers are putting out a 12oz can &...

Things are changing when going to college. My son is now in school and got into a chugging event in his dorm. They drew beers from a bin. One kid pulls a Busch Lite. My son pulls a Boneshaker. He claims it does not chug well. :o

The Bent Elbow (was: A Kitchener Christmas Present)

Sounds like Harold is close to inking a deal on a joint on Weber Street in Kitchener (a mile closer to me than the Castle was :D ). He is talking 40 to 50 seats with a patio and 25 to 30 taps. Hopefully opening in early December. I am plotting a trial Executioners Ale as we speak. As yes...the schni...

And in 2010, NAC did find another brewery to brew the Labatt brands for the US market - Molson-Coors! But for a period of time, Molson was brewing Blue and Blue Light in Canada and shipping it to the US. And still is. The six tanks brought in by Molson that came through Hamilton and got a lot of pr...

I have tried a couple of all spelt beers. Both decent enough beers and miles ahead of any gluten free beer I have tried elsewhere.

Problem is, I don't believe spelt is gluten free enough to meet the standards of 'gluten-free'. I will try and find some studies I have in the library.

I wonder if we're just in an expansion phase of craft beer, soon to be followed by a massive (but drawn-out) contraction again We have done this once already with the end result being a slow but inevitable change in the regulatory environment around us that allows us in Ontario to do nano breweries...
