2. Re Belgian's post above, need to differentiate between the owners of TBS and the employees of TBS. Sure, the employees will fight tooth and nail for those cushy union jobs. But I agree with OP that at a certain point if sufficiently squeezed, the owners might say "to hell with it, we can re...

I heard about this and it got me wondering. How much of a squeeze would the government have to put on the beer store, before the beer store owners said screw it and started pushing for beer sales in grocery stores. I mean sure the beer store helps Labatt and Molson make a ton of money, but at the sa...

I'm also always amused by business writers who seem to assume big beer and craft beer are more or less interchangeable, and that we drink craft out of some desire to embrace a hipster locovore mentality, to feel better about our consumer choices, etc. What a bunch of crap. Molson and Labatt crank o...

Of course California has more "world class" beers than Ontario - it is the size of all of Canada. Michigan, New York, etc? I don't see it. We are at least now brewing beers that are solidly in the conversation. Not to mention the 30-ish states that Ontario easily outclasses. Not only is C...

When it comes to Ontario vs. the US I think there are so many factors at play (above and beyond simple supply and demand)that it becomes hard to compare. I mean the biggest one is the fact that there economy is more than 10 times bigger than Canada's. That alone is huge. I mean walk into any grocery...

Isn't the most obvious solution to make the new facility a pure production facility, at least until the stupid law is changed? Who says they have to offer tours? Also, how does Amsterdam do it? I presume they exceed the 25,000 HL minimum. Or put another way, they are more than ten times bigger than...

In the article it talks about incorporating the new location as a different company. The only draw back would mean they couldn't sell beer made there at their original location. But they could sell the beer made there at the onsite store, and to bars and as a "guest beer" at their brew pu...

Bellwoods will be faced with limited options. They can incorporate a second, separate business at the Dupont location, but they wouldn’t be able to sell beer made there at their Ossington shop, so they’d still be running out. They can open without a retail shop, but ending a brewery tour with nothi...

Samuel Adams Octoberfest
LCBO#: 207084
6 x 355 mL bottle
$9.95
Is that price really for 6? I don't remember the last time I saw a six pack of anything for under $10 (at least anything I might buy).

I live in Ottawa so I have had some great, really fresh lug tread. Although the last 4 pack I bought had too much sulphur flavour/aroma. Michael Hancock says prominent sulfur can indicate very fresh beer so it might be worth giving it a gentle pour and let these VOCs blow off a few minutes. It's no...

I went to this place when I was in NYC about 4 years ago:

It didn't have the greatest tap list (although I did have an SNPA). But the food was really good (especially the potato salad that came with my burger) and the place itself and the atmosphere was really awesome.

Truthfully, how many places would actually honour this if there was a discrepancy? They may not want to, but if they realized the repercussions, all of them. You would think this thing would be enforced like crazy (at least in a place like Ottawa). I can just picture a ton of Industry Canada employ...

sooo, $6 for a bottle of beaus pilsner.. Without commenting on quality, a bottle of Karma Citra is about the same price for basically the same size so it doesn't seem that far out of line with what else is available from Ontario breweries. And I imagine that a bottle of an IPA can be produced and s...

I imagine too that with the way the LCBO release schedule works, Founders can't really use their special releases to push sales for all their brands. I mean my understanding is that in the states a KBS release is a big deal and people will line up for that kind of thing. I have to think that the buz...
