Very cool new for Brad upping his size and distro, for beer drinkers for getting more porter in Ontario (we so badly need a solid, Ontario brewery year round not-spiced porter, especially in cans), and to hear that Innocente is picking up some contract brew load and, hopefully, acting as another Bl...

.... But as I've stated above, what an owner does on their private property should be at their discretion, as long as it does not violate the rights of others. And going to a bar is not a right. To follow your logic: if access to smoking hadn't been curtailed by government, a bar owner could tell s...

Perhaps the beer lovers who still smoke could quit. They'll be able to enjoy all the great craft beer into their old age.

Town Crier / Sin & Redemption

Reviving an old thread. Do these two pubs share common ownership? I was looking at Thrillist, which did a "best of" back in July. http://www.thrillist.com/drink/toronto/the-best-beer-bars-in-toronto?ir=venue Town Crier and Sin & Redemption were on the list. I looked at their sites: the...

We checked out this place before heading to Cask Days. Walked in around 6:00 on Saturday...and walked out. The vibe was "sports bar with non-macro beer". Too many screens, too noisy, and a cold greeting at the front of house. (Maybe she was having a bad day). Won't go back anytime soon. :(

My first ever Cask Days. A birthday gift from my son. At first we felt overwhelmed with the choices available, (what a terrible problem!), but we opened our booklets and dove in. I had so many excellent beers, the food was great, and random conversations with strangers on our favorites was fun. Are ...

Battle of the Monopolies

Seems like Our Glorious Leader needs more $. Given the latest MaRS fiasco, this is no surprise. To find that $, let's have a fight between the private-monopoly and the government monopoly. OGL may propose to sell 12-packs of the macros' beer in the government-monopoly store, as well as looking to ge...

UPDATE: NB Liquor drops minimum sales quota!

Great news for the microbrewers, especially the startups.

Hoping to get to the Strathcona soon!

If the tap selections will always be limited (space?), please bear down hard on expanding the bottle selection. It should stand out and be sought after, regardless of what's available in any Hamilton LCBO.

Definitely agree with this. Picked up Conscience at the brewery mid-July, having had it at Winking Judge Beer Fest. Loved it.

I'm still looking for NB Liquor's rationale for its original decision. Absent any plausible explanation, are we seeing the firm hand of Moosehead, for example? I believe that wineries and cideries can sell from the farmgate in NB. Why not beer at the brewery? Meantime, the decision to allow the two ...

Your second paragraph strongly implies 'all vintners' are to blame and they all thin their root stocks and it's always to create scarcity not finer yield (major points of clarity around both integrity and quality.) Just reads that way to me... Nah, didn't mean to paint all vintners with the same br...

... LOL, hope not. Regarding Vintages wines, yes those are genuinely marketed to actual scarcity, not just the trade pushing some labels to insane demand but also vintners can only pull so many good crates of grapes off a specific magical piece of terroir (and only have so many 'perfect' vintages w...

I don't know if this still happens, but a few years ago I would see wine lovers (snobs?) lining up on a Saturday morning outside LCBO stores with a big Vintages section. They had eagerly devoured the latest release catalogue, and circled some brutally overpriced cab sauv. The LBCO would limit purcha...
