Online stores are great, but I still wish there was a good bricks & mortar store in Toronto. I had my family gift me a bunch of carboys this year just because they live in Kingston & Guelph so they have like 5 choices each to pick one up and not pay the killer shipping. My parents literally ...

of course, the assumption is that these are brett strains. w/o a microscope, agar and a microbiology degree, i have no clue what these would do. Only one way to find out. Not quite. I happen to have a friend with all of those things who could tell you if you have Brett if you really want to know. I...

I had a Brother Thelonius tonight that I think was from late 2012. To be honest, I wasn't thrilled with it. It came across a little too malty without the complexity or depth I expect from the better examples of the style.

Re: love is not spam, nor is spam really meat

Those parisian terasse pictures are a flashback for me. Yeah Paris coffee was usually awful - and it was even impossible to buy a good tea anywhere except the Louvré. The scenery kind of makes up for that over there, while Te Aro's Caffe Americano kind of makes up for Queen & Carlaw over here. ...

Sawdust City Long Dark Voyage to Uranus Wow! 650 ml of 9% goodness. A challenge by yourself after having had some other treats during the day. Pours like used motor oil - and I say that in a positive, most complimentary way. They had a version of that at the Roundhouse festival over the weekend tha...

Interesting. I was in Queens Quay tonight and there was none there. Ottawa beating the store on the same lot as HQ for an import is rare.

New non-LCBO/TBS beer releases

I've always thought it would be good to have a thread just for talking about new releases coming from the breweries that aren't going to be in the LCBO or Beer store. Am I alone on this? Anywho, Bellwoods is talking big about the new berliner weisses they're releasing on Thursday: ...the surprise th...

Will be drinking a Founders Porter or something even darker when I get home tonight. I need it.
Well TBH we need to thank Nickleass for the Moralite, and man is it ever a tasty brew!
I'm in that boat too. Thanks Nick!

Goudenband shows stock at Summerhill. That usually means the other stores will have stock in a day or two.

I'm really looking forward to that Eisbock. It's one of those styles you just don't see that often in Ontario. Me too! I buy the regular Aventinus when I can, but yeah, the Eisbock is truly fantastic. That's a beer that I overlook often for some reason. When I posted before I made a note to myself ...

Thank you, I am "paying attention". A robust Porter, or extra-stout Porter, is a stout, at least historically and as far as I am concerned. I can see that others disagree. I just find these things to be a bit meaningless when they are employed too rigidly or make overly fine distinctions....

or maybe "Paler"?
