And then there's Seattle. As others have noted, the Elysian Fields Brewpub is on the way to the two stadia and worth visiting. I walked there (do it by day) and found myself in first the Central Saloon, Seattle's oldest, and found some adequate ales on tap. Just about opposite the Elysian Fields is ...

One of the great things about both Portland and Seattle is that, apart from the outstanding beer bars, just about any place you go into has good beer. Even the ballpark had a couple of very good IPAs. But there are also great beer bars. One Portland must-see is the Horse Brass, the ur-beer-pub of th...

Thanks to the Bar Towellers who came to my gig last Sunday at Volo, and I hope you had a good time. Thanks to Carl for setting it up and to Ralph who provided no fewer than four cask ales. And I hope Aina's feeling better.

Since my name was invoked early in this thread, I may as well observe that I went twice to the Hop in Brew this summer and liked it very much, anointing it as the pub I would spend my time in if I lived in Calgary.

As usual, Brighton made an indecently premature departure from the FA Cup, so it ain't going to happen this time round. Scallywags is safe from the likes of me for some time to come, unless they show the semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, or better yet the final, if we get that far. I will ...

Sense of resignation, more like. That and the knowledge that we live in an imperfect world and must find pleasure where we can. Don't know where a supporter of a high-flying club like Crippled Alice would develop that sensibility that leads to the quest for fine ales. Glad you did though.

Thank you, Pub Style. I can't promise I'll keep you entertained all afternoon; that's what the beer is for. I'll do my best, however.

The Alibi Room is a must -- best draught selection in Vancouver. It opens at 5pm during the week and is closed Mondays. It's not far from Steamworks and is even closer to the Irish Heather on Carrall St., the only place in town that has cask ale all the time; it was very good indeed when we were the...

My wife has announced that she has too much work to do, so I have a ticket for Sunday afternoon. Absurdly last minute, but if anyone's lingering by the computer in hopes of a ducat, I have one. I'll be at home till 11:30.

I went to see the Portland Beavers in, well, Portland last week and was pleased to find Lagunitas IPA and Diamond Knot IPA on tap. And, since it was cheap beer Thursday, they were $3.50 for a decent-sized plastic glass. Nicer ballpark too. Civilization is possible; I don't know why it has to be so d...

Ken, it was -- as always -- great to see you doing the Lord's work on Thursday. We're a cynical bunch, as you know, but you're out there at all these events, trying to make the world a better place. We don't deserve you, but we're glad to have you anyway.

An overwhelming 60% of the CASK! core group are beardless, at least as of the last meeting. And the paunch is even more endangered. It couldn't be less like CAMRA if it tried.

Sad story from Oz

No one on Ratebeer seems to have reviewed Melbourne Bitter, but here's a bloke who liked it plenty:
