Forked River

http://www.lfpress.com/2015/10/26/forked-river-toasting-expansion It may be a minor thing (the retail is in a different unit of the same plaza), but it took > 6 months for AGO to approve it with pressure from local and provincial gov't. All because the store is not *directly* attached to the brewery...

Re: Labbat buys Millstreet

Mill Street isn't an amazing brewer, but they make some decent beers, and they've managed to make headway into a lot of spaces traditionally held by the big guys. I guess that's why they were bought. Too bad, now it's back to all AB Inbev companies sponsoring everything around London.

Re: it all tastes the same anyway

After the merger, in the interests of economy of scale and having a consistent product they will replace all existing brands with new and improved "Beer": Neutral alcohol diluted in distilled water with a bit of yellow food colouring and CO2 added. It will be totally lacking in flavour and...

Yeah, that sounds about right. I just like calling beer "growler liquid" (I know it's a transcription thing).

Re: Beer Coming to Grocery Stores?

It's always a mixture of effects. If they had rushed it to immediate conclusion people would be complaining because the only people with the volume to handle the additional outlets are established market players. This gives the little guys some time to plan. Honestly, if we get more players in the ...

Re: Beer Coming to Grocery Stores?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this (or I missed it in another thread, sorry. This seems like the place for it), but there's some info on this issue on Ben's Beer Blog: http://bensbeerblog.com/2015/09/08/ontarios-independent-grocers-want-to-support-craft-beer/ Some details about beer in grocery ...

Re: not holding my breath for future shipment.

Stone stuff finally showing up on the site didn't realize they were 650 ml bottles :/ Yeah me either. :/ Maybe this being Ontario they figured we must love tall bottles ... Dividing that $8.95 cost in half, can't help ask - how would they manage to sell a single 340ml of Stone IPA here for $4.50? O...

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

I'll 4th (or 5th or whatever) wanting to have some bitter/mild options. Someone from Grand River said on here a few months ago that they've submitted their Mill Race Mild to the LCBO several times and keep getting rejected. ISAs are cool now, milds and bitters aren't, so it seems the LCBO isn't inte...

Re: Summerhill Growler/Craft Beer Destination Store

...if it's just Loblaw, Empire, Metro, Cosco and Walmart all we're going to see is macro beer with maybe a few token craft options. IIRC wasn't it that 20% shelf space will have to be dedicated to ON craft beer? But Steamwhistle, and the core brands of Mill Street, Amsterdam and one or two others w...

Not surprising, the last couple didn't seem to go so well. Especially the Mikkeller.

Re: Coming Soon to the LCBO

Muskoka made a good move by canning so many of it's products IMO; it's a no-brainer for their cottage brewery image and they are good offerings. Their good, but not exceptional, beers in 750 mL bottles at exceptional prices, can go sit on the nice warm LCBO shelves for all I care.

Well, at Queen and Coxwell LCBO there's a big display of Mikkeller beers sitting like a boat anchor. Nobody.… is... buying it. That should've been on discount weeks ago IMO. it's not getting any younger. Same story in the two Guelph stores that have it. Lots of stock of everything, besides the black...

Huh. Well I trust your opinion considerably more than a writer who admittedly is not a beer drinker. Maybe there's something to it. Good thing I like to hang out in dank pits.
